Default navigation DVD....

Today I was looking for a side mirror for my 04 RX330 and found that there are a few units at the local junk yard.I called them up and found out there there are three RX330 that had navigation.

Can someone tell me if I want to update my nav dvd what is the last model year that had a nav dvd that is compatible with the 04 RX330?

The junk yard is asking $10 for the disc, I know it is not the latest version but for that price I can't lose.

Thanks

9.1 is the latest nav version out there. I got a postcard to update my 04 but didn't bother with the new RX on the way. In fact I never updated it at all I didn't want to pay $300 each for previous updates. At least 9.1 is about half that through Sewell. But for $10, heck, I say go for the junkyard disc and whatever else you can get off the 330s.

The 2007 RX350 was the first model to use the Lexus Generation 5 Navigation DVD. It's my understanding that these later Gen 5 discs will not work with the RX330.

Thanks

You can only use generation 3 navigation dvd's on 2004 models. Generation 4 dvd is only compatible with 2005-2006 models.

2007-2009 models have to be generation 5 dvd, nothing else will work. I hope this helps.

I have no idea, but 2005 and 2006 Rx's have generation 4 navigation and should be only compatible with generation 4 dvd's. You can call the dealership and verify it with them.

each version of dvd maps come in gen3 gen4 or gen5 versions. This chart will tell you what generation of hardware is in your car. Then you can get a map dvd (v5, v6 etc or ver 9- which is the latest) to go with your generation of navi. Older maps are always cheaper whether it be junk yard or ebay. Just be sure to get the map version that goes with your hardware.

Many thanks!

With that chart, it indicates my '08 RX350 can go with the 9.1 current CD.

Is is as simple as changing CDs or do I need to do something else. I've browsed some of the threads, and was thinking I needed to do something to accept it, but that chart implies to me I just need dto change DVDs.

Under normal circumstances yes you're correct. I've heard from dcfish that custom harness is done to adapt Gen 5 screens onto Gen 3 and 4 RX. No I haven't done it myself because I can't justify spending $1500 when I have 2 aftermarket nav system( Pioneer Avic-Z1 with Z3 maps loaded and an Eclipse AVN2454 with latest firmware, both system have backup camera and all the bells and whistle) sitting around

You just need to eject the old dvd and feed in the new one just like any dvd player. the navi reader is under the tool tray which is beneath the carpet in the cargo area. my recollection is that there are a couple of plastic push pins holding the tool tray down that you can just pry out. pull up on the tray and the navi reader is right there. i don't remember if the eject button is a push or slide but should be easy to figure out.

In my opinion the biggest value of that chart is the column that tells what generation (2/3, 4 or 5) the navi hardware of each car is. You can get map dvd v9 for any car, you just have to know which goes with your navi hardware. There are separate versions of map dvd 9 for gen 2/3, 4 and 5. Be sure to get the right one. (5 for you). How much difference you will see between map v 9 and whatever you have in your car now is iffy. sometimes it takes several years for new addresses/poi to show up on the dvds.

Finding the eject button is a little tricky in the dark, as it is both a slide and a push. First you slide a tab to the side, but you also have to push the "eject" button which is uncovered by sliding the tab. This is very hard to see, and the usual first reaction of many people is to think that something is not working right when nothing happens after the slide. My best advice is to use a little (actually, any size) flashlight, as everything involved is black on black and very hard to see.
Also, keep the engine running while the new DVD completely boots up and the NAV system is fully operational, as in some cases changes are being made to the operating system.
