Tire size for 20" rims
I need help selecting tire size for 20x9.5 rims on my wife's RX. How big can you go without hitting the shock in the rear? I just placed order on rims and need to select best tire fitment.
Also...anyone know of any coileover applications?

Ikon RX was very helpfull and gave me these offsets. I gave them to my friend who is doing the rims and he said it should be good.
here is what Ikon RX suggested.
"If 9.5, you have to run staggered offsets.
Go with
-20x9.5 +32 normal disk front
-9.5 +17 low disk rear(these sizes will have it sitting flush with the fenders)"
I am planning on lowering and am looking for coilovers.

Wow that is a sweet setup, becareful if you parallel park. I remember when I had my Scion tC, I had the wheel flush with fender, and parallel parking was kind of a pain because you can't be too close to the curb or too far out ( sticking out ) and risk of curbing the wheel. I had my fair share of wheel curbing, a pain to get it machine and paint to match and not to mention costly too

Those are pretty wide for a 20" wheel. I usually see 20x8.5 and the 9.5" wide are usually on 22" wheels. Not saying they don't make it, but that's what I usually see in stock at the wheel shops.
I've tried 20x8.5 +35 and it was flush, 22x9.5 +15 and it stuck out in the front about 3/4" and flush in the rear, 22x9.5 +35 and it was flush. I'll post a picture when I get my new wheels on. Should be about a week to two.

thanks for the info Veleno. I might have my friend look into that. the rims will take a while to be made so I have time to figure out the exact setup. I wish more RX owners modded their rides so there was more info to share on setups.

Ikon_rx also gave me a more conservative setup
Good conservative sizes for your wife's RX are:
-20x9 +25(about 3/4in clearance from strut to rim/tire) normal disk, 255/40 tire
-20x8.5 +20 normal disk, 245/40 tire

Getting DPE wheels (www.dpe-wheels.com). SP-5, 3 piece. It is one of their new 3 piece rims w/ hidden 3 piece hardware. Flat black center w/ gloss black lip. They don't have pictures of the rims because they aren't officially released yet but they will look similar to their Signature Series SL-5 without rivets.
I have close ties with DPE if anyone wants rims. PM me and I will give you their contact info.

thanks Veleno...I ended up ordering 20x8.5. The 9.5 was a little too close for comfort to the strut...especially since I am looking at putting a tire with some meat. 20x8.5 should allow me more options for tires.
Now I am not sure if I should go 255/45 or 265/45.
Does anyone know how close the 255 and 265 will come to the strut in the rear?
Anyone have pics of how close the 255's are in the rear?

Now that you are going with the 8.5 width, the tires will start to bubble/round out if you start to go bigger (than 245/45/20). I think the 265 will look too big like truck tires, and you might decide between 245 and 255. Are you ordering the tires or are you getting them from a local shop? The good thing about someone local is that you can try on those sizes to see which one you prefer, but if you order them you're SOL.
I'll be installing my 22's tomorrow, I'll try to take a picture and post it up.
