Default How to tell AWD or 2WD?

I'm helping a friend purchase an 07-08 RX350. They only really need 2WD, as the car will spend all of its time on dry roads and highways. Is there any way to tell if an RX is AWD or 2WD for just looking at it? What percentage of RX's were made in 2WD? Also, what type of MPG increase is to be expect by opting for 2WD?

easiest way is too luck underneath for a differential and transfer case. if you dont want to do that you can check the VIN

check under the steering wheel. if there is a trac off button, then it is FWD. If it is just an emply black fake button, then it is AWD

Ask the seller? I would assume (hope) that anyone selling their vehicle would know that tidbit of information.

Expect about 1 MPG more with the FWD.

+1 RXSF, that's the easiest way to tell if you don't know the correct position of the vin #.

Is there really a lot of torque-steer on the FWD models? I've only driven AWD. I would assume it drives like an ES, no? I'd like to find my friend one out of the South (never seen salted winter roads), and most of the southern units are FWD. But for future resale, my friend is leaning towards to AWD.

This is the best way to tell if AWD or FWD.

FWD will save you gas. AWD work better in snow. Torque steer, not much on FWD.

I have FWD.

We looked for a used RX with AWD before we got a deal on a new one which we could not pass up. Seems about 80% of them sold around here are FWD.

Most of the rx's here in FL are fwd. Not much snow to power through. For those serious boat towers and off-roading guys (who muds with a lexus??), I'm sure the gx and lx come into the picture.

A fwd lx.. now that'd be something to laugh at!
