Extended CPO?
I am thinking about buying a 2006 RX AWD from my dealer. It's a CPO'd vehicle with only 17K miles on it. They want $29,000 and I plan to start my offer at $26,000. I will not go above $27,000.
Anyway, the dealer mentioned "for a few grand more" I could extend the CPO warranty from 3 years/100,000 miles to 5 years (we put on about 1000 miles/month so for us it's really a time issue as we won't hit 100,000).
Is this an option I can buy from one of dealers mentioned here that discount the warranties? Or since it's not a "new" vehicle but rather a CPO vehicle must I get the 5 year deal from the selling dealer at the time of the sale?

There is some thing amiss here ..
Base warranty .. should automatically go to the next owner ... milage-and-or-time* based (form the new car sale date).
Extended warranty extends the base warranty to 100K miles-and-or-time*. If the first owner buys the extended warranty, it can be transferred to the next owner for about $50.
If at the time of resale [Lexus dealership] provides the extended warranty, it is called CPO. [it does not matter if the first owner had extended warranty or the purchaser is the 3rd/4th/so-on owner to be.
Extended warranties have some exclusion, so read the policy.
One can also buy extended warranty form other than Lexus, but investigate how solid the underwriter is.

* which ever runs out first.
ps: Do not confuse the CPO with x number of points inspection.

IMO Extended warranties are not worth it. Especially on a Lexus. The chances that you will have a problem that exceeds the cost of the warranty is very slim. There's a reason they sell these warranties, to make money.
To extend the warranty another year is $900, and about $600 for every additional year, up to 6 years. Going from 100K miles to 125K miles is an additional $600.
So to go to 6 years / 125K miles should be around $2700.
Depends on you and if you need year, miles, or both.

I think I did well. I bot the CPO'd 2006 RX, 17300 miles, for $27,500 plus $2000 to extend the warranty to 6 years 100K miles (I only put on about 12K/year). They gave me the wholesale value for my 2003 Mercury Mountaineer ("Explorer") with 80,000 miles. I probably could have squeezed another $1000 to $1500 if I had been willing to sell the old car myself.
It was the dealer's car from the get go, leased to a lady who never had passengers. The leather is 100% new on all surfaces except the driver's seat which is maybe 85% to 90% new.

All of the CPOd Lexi on my dealer's lots appear to have new leather drivers seats. Or at least the tushy part that usually gets wrinkled.
I'll post more photos later if my wife ever let's me have the RX again. In the meantime I will say that our "new to us" RX does seem to have been restored to showroom condtion as much as possible.

I think they invest in new driver's seat for the sole purpose of it being a CPO, you will be turned off if you see a worn out leather seat. This is one of the negatives of the Lexus, the leather is not as robust as European cars, they wear out prematurely, it is more of the design than anything else. SUVs being so tall, getting into the seat will always wera out the sides. Lexus was thinking of an automatic seat where it bends so that you will ease through the seat without pressure, thereby extending the life of the leather. The 2010 has had a leather upgrade but no such design change yet.
