Default smoke

I have a 2008 RX350 that blows out smoke when it sits for a little bit runs fine does not burn oil. The smoke stinks took it to the dealer and they said I needed a new motor. Any ideas its hard to believe it is the motor no lights come on.

Get a second opinion. Try an independent shop.

+1... what he said.

Blue smoke is oil, white smoke is water (or that a new Pope has been elected). So, I would be checking your coolant overflow tank as well.

You do not say how many miles are on your RX350. Have you owned since new? Regular oil changes every 5K?

The fact that you are not throwing a CEL means little.

I bought it new regular oil changes 110, 000 miles. It is a white smoke all the fluids levels are full. The smoke does not smell like oil or gas it stinks and the engine light does not come on. It does it the worst when you are getting up to hwy. Speed it sounds like a fuel ping then a lot of smoke comes out then clears up when you get up to speed it will not do it again till you slow down and take off again. The dealer gave me no info and I changed the PVC valve and it helped a little.

first, it is a PCV valve.

second, i would try and find out where the coolant is entering the engine. sounds like a head gasket vice new motor. (unless the head is cracked) then it might be cheaper for a new motor.

Did the dealership say WHY you needed a new motor?

blue smoke, oil
fuel, black
white, water/coolant

if it was just condensation from the temperature drop, it wouldnt have much of a smell.
it wouldnt take much coolant to cause the smoke, but you are right, it should have dropped by now.

something isnt adding up

hardtail30, do you drive it hard at all?
Is there enough smoke being put out that you can see it in your mirrors?

It sounds like a head gasket. I've had several cars in the past that did the same thing. Usually, its white smoke with a sickly sweet smell. Burning antifreeze is pretty distinctive. Pull out your dipstick and look to see if the oil seems to have bubbles in it. Oil and water don't mix, so the coolant will separate from the oil. You can also check the coolant to see if you see oil floating in it. Either of those and its not a good sign.

Thank you all I called Lexus and they are going to diagnosis for free because it sounds like an issue with another model but they have never seen in the RX models.
