Default XM Volume

Hopefully this is not a repeat post, I could not find another...

I had the XM installed at the dealer when I purchased my 2008 RX, one thing I noticed is that the volume seems low. What I mean is that if I change from the CD of a volume of say 17, to sat, the volume is very low with the same #17 setting. Any idea why there is a difference?

Thanks

Good question. Nobody has come up with it yet. From reading the posts, the magnitude of the problem seems to vary. many people notice it but not everybody and some people describe it beyond what i experience. My sirius is definitely lower than fm/am/cd. when i flip away from sirius i always turn down the volume a few notches but when i forget to do that in advance, it's not like i'm blasted out.

the only thing i can think of is to make sure the satellite input connections are well seated but that seems pretty silly. I think if they weren't secure you either wouldn't get sound or would get a loud hum. Hopefully somebody will come up with something.

Same on my Corvette. I believe this is due to the output voltage of the XM unit being lower than the radio or cd. Just a guess.

Have been experimenting some. On my GS with mark levinson the satellite vol difference is less noticeable seems to me, with the surround off but still a diff. I notice it less on our RX which doesnt have the ML sound system, but it's still there. My ears aren't audiophile quality but i still jockey the volume when i change inputs.

Hamop's guess is better than anything i could come up with. Some people seem to have it worse than others. I wonder if all Lexus dealers use the exact same xm tuner or if they pick from a short list depending on overall configuration etc. or if the tuner has changed from year to year and that's why it varies. leave to somebody smarter than me.
