Question Hidden Navigation Dvd Player

I Have A 2004 Rx330 And I'm Plannig To Upgrade My Nav System In November. (which By The Way , Is When My Dealer Said The Next Version Is Coming Out). Has Anyone Done This? Can You Tell Me How I Access The Player. I Think It's Behind The Rear Seat Under The Tire Storage Lid. I See Some Type Of Heat Disapator There But I'm Really Not Sure Thats It. I Don't Want To Take Apart The Rear Area Unless I Know I'm Where I'm Suppose To Be. Any Help Would Be Appreciated.
Thank You, Bob (siximps@yahoo.com)

yes, its in the trunk. so just open the trunk, open the tire hatch.on the right side, next to all the tools, there will be a lid, and just open the lid and its right there. really simple.

be in a well lit area, or else it will be hard to see the hatch

Thank You So Much. Have You Done The Upgrade At All? If So, Is It Just A Matter Of Putting The New Disk In? Thanks, Bob

This will update the streets and points of interest database, to include changes since 2003. It won't change software, however, to make it look like a 2007/2008 version. If you have new streets in your area that it can't find, then this update may be worth it.

It MAY break/disable the navigation override feature, but I could be wrong. I have seen conflicting reports on that.

Question Where to buy upgrade?

My dealer's service dept. says that upgrades must be done through them, and that they will charge $300 for it. Can we buy the upgrade separately? Do any dealers sell them out of their parts dept.? Are there any risks in doing it ourselves?

Thanks in advance for thoughts/advice.

You can buy the update from any lexus dealer as long as it is legitimate disc.

Here is a link to discussion about it:

Sewell lexus is a good option. Go to the link below:
http://www.lexus-parts.com/Search.asp
Search for DVD and select your year/model and select the appropriate disc

Bottomline price is $220 for those who want it

When are the nav updates typically released? I see that the current version is 2007. As I am about to buy an update, if the 2008 is due early next year, I might as well wait.

7.1 was just released so the 2008 will probably be in about another year around September/October

I had version 4.1 on my 2004 RX330 when the nav sys would lock up. Dealer replaced DVD version 6.1 to correct problem. 6.1 was an update i.e. mapping but I have yet to notice a difference. I WOULD NOT PAY THE +/- $350.00 FOR THE LATEST DVD.

Follow up to my previous message. I went back to my dealer, but to the parts dept. instead of service and asked about the upgrade. Not only was it $265 (instead of $300), but the guy I talked to said it was too easy to have service do it, and then he tried to convince me not to get it since there aren't very many changes. I'll get it anyway as I live in an area with many new streets, but I think I'll talk to the parts people first from now on.
