Default 15,000 service

Dear All,
I own a 07 Rx350 and it is close to 15,000 miles service. The dealer is charging me $440+tax on this and I think it's way too expensive. Do you guys recommend to do extra service in addition to the oil change, tire rotation etc.? Thank you.

That's way too much. Go to an independant mechanic.

Agreed, find a place that specializes in Toyota/Lexus and take your vehicle there.

Or just dont the service, ask your dealer to just change the oil and that it. You can skip all that " dealer check this, dealer check that " which they charge you $400. Look in the manual, just do the absolute necessary maintenance such as fluid change, belts and filters.

What are they changing at 15K miles that they are charging you $440 + tax besides oil change??

It's called the excessive "Lexus fee."

I just did the 15K maintainence on my 07 RX350 too.

Free rotation at American's Tire Co.
$11 for 7 quarts of Mobil 5000 at Walmart. Car only need 6.4, I usually put in 6.2.
$4 for Toyota filter with coupon from Lexus dealership.
$0.90 for crush washer.

Under $20 for the 15K, but it did take me 30 minutes to change the oil and I did wait 15 minutes at the tire place for the rotation.

You can do two things:
1) Take it to a Local Toyota dealership
2) Ask your Lexus dealership to do only Oil/Filter change.

Make that one more.

3) Do it yourself

Skip the 15K service. Just do the Oil chance, tire rotation and the engine air filter at a Toyota Dealer for about 100 bucks. The other things you can do on your own is change the Cabin Air Filter. Go to a Toyota Dealership and you will get better pricing. If unsure of the part number, bring in the dirty air cabin filter and they'll look up the part for you. Total cost out the door..... $130 bucks... Thats a lot cheaper than the 440 bucks at the Lexus dealer.
Now for the 30K service, It will set you back around $300 at the Toyota dealership vs. $660 at the Lexus dealership for the same service, parts and labor. Basically the service writer charged me for the service of a V6 Highlander. The only difference is that you dont get loaner car when you get it serviced at at Toyota dealer

Generally most toyota dealers provide a loaner free (obviously not a Lexus ) if the service is over $250.Check the local Toyota dealer website for the service coupon.
In my area houston we get the service coupons all the time, sometimes there is tire rotation for $18.95 at the dealer

I find that this is standard at most dealers. For example, years ago, I took my one year old Acura to the dealer for a 15000 mile check and he said the bill would be $300+ (don't remember the actual number). I went outside, got my warranty book, opened to that service interval and said "do these and only these items!" He retorted that "didn't I want to do what was best for my car?" Of course, the reply was that I was certain that Acura knew how to maintain their car, since they designed and built it, better than a service department that was trying to increase their bottom line.

Final cost for the service was around $50 or so.

If you go to an independent garage or do it yourself (I did mine and it was quite easy), save the receipt for future warranty claims

Just had my wife's 07 RX350 15k service. The toal cost was $104 including tax. Anyone know of a reputable Toyota/Lexus repair facility in the Orange county area?

Never get a XXXXXXmile service. Look in the maintenance manual and tell the dealer exactly what you want them to do and get an itemized cost list for each individual service. I had my 15k service done about 7 months ago and this is what i was charged:-
1)Special on Oil change and tire rotation.....$45
2)Air Filter replacement............................$40
3)Inspect this/that & top of fluids..............$Free
4)Total.................................................$85 +tax

If you really wanna be cheap, take your car to a tire store and they'll rotate you tires for free. Buy your Oil and filter(supertech) at walmart and have toyota charge you for labor and change the air filter yourself since its so easy and you'll end up paying $15 for labor and $40 for oil/oil filter/air filter. Out the door price for $55. Not too shabby huh. Send the other $400 bucks my way buddy, alright! Lol.
