Read Your Owner's Manual
Attended the "Get To Know Your Lexus" seminar last night.
The message sent is quite clear - read your owner's manual, it covers everything you need to know, from maintenance, warranties to road assistance. It is however suprising that most motor vehicle forums debate more on motor oil and gas rating. I do know what is it with oil and gas that people are so passionate about. So, here Lexus dealers uses dino 5W30 motor oil all year round (page 292?). No flames please, just passing on information.:D :D |
uh ok......they have seminars liike that...or is it just something they do at your local dealer?

None of that happened. Mostly they told us to check our tire pressure and tread depth (gave us a free gauge but no specs) and buy the tires and service from them. There were too many vehicle types to get into any specifics, and none of the "experts" were around. One guy got pretty upset by the end - said if he didn't know how to check tire pressure by now he shouldn't be driving and was hoping somebody would show him how to use his Nav instead. They were very nice, but definitely a lot less info then I expected. It sounds like our Canadian friend was told to read the manual, which doesn't sound any more useful.:D |

Our dealer holds a "New Lexus Owners Clinic". I had HOPED that they would introduce us to real mechanics, show us some of the cool electronic diagnostic equipment, give us tips on our vehicles, etc.

Read the manual was basically just the gist of the seminar. Every department of the dealership was represented, drinks, pastries, cut fruits were also served. It was a 2-hour long seminar. Every aspect of the car was covered. Q & A were done spontaneously. Everyone was able to tour the service area, were all Lexus products were up the hoist. We were also briefed on the technology behind servicing and how communications operate between local dealerships and Toyoda, Japan. I was impressed and blown away with the arrangements. Last year I bought my wife an 06 E55 MB, and only got a handshake. I was even charged though a minuscule amount for shipping at home to surprise her. |
Can you provide some examples of what you learned? I'm not trying to be difficult but I want to make sure that if I participate in the 'seminar' as part of my next purchase that I walk away with more than snacks and a tour of the dealership. And a Q&A session would probably have been more helpful to me after a year of owning the vehicle. I really didn't know what to ask right after I bought the car.
Thanks. |
The seminar is more of an overview of how Lexus through its dealership support its products, and commitment to service over and above the norm.
The Q & A are also general in nature. For particular issues pertinent to your own Lexus, it is advised to call the service department, and a service advisor will be readily available. Keep in mind that the attendees are representative of all Lexus products. I find the tour of the service area educational since it is off-limits during workdays. |
Jednav-
It does seem like you did get a better seminar. They held ours out in the service area because it was supposed to be service oriented, but we didn't get a tour or look at any of the equipment. That really surprised me. I think the snacks were some cheese, cookies and maybe fruit - probably a wash on that aspect:) We were invited to one major event at the Dealer for the launch of the LS460. That one was very nice - great food and drinks, a couple of bars, music - a class act. To top it off, there was a raffle and I won a free detailing! |
Yes, when we went to the "New Owners" seminar/meeting it was pretty much all basic when it came to actual car talk. What was informative though was they take you step by step how to deal with each department and where to go and who to see for what. We mostly went for the free food and just because we had the extra time :)
Anyway, even as a male the first thing I do when I get a car is read the entire manual. In fact, I read most manuals for everything I buy. There are exceptions though:p |
dealers near you guys sound real good. i wonder if the dealer nearby does that
