Do you need Premium Gas in the 2RX (merged discussion threads)

I read a USA Today review that said 91 octane was "recommended" - what have you been filling in your new 330?

Just curious . . .

The manual says regular (87) is ok, but for improved performance use premium (91+). I just refilled ours with premium (which is 93 here), but I'll probably try regular after a few tanks and see how it does.

premium gas

I just bought 2006 RX330 in the manual it states that you have to use premium fuel; has anyone tried regular??

Are you sure that's what it says in the manual? In my '05 manual, it says the car will run on regular, but premium is recommended for better performance.

It's been my experience, with my RX 330 and the Highlander before that, that I can run premium and the increase in gas mileage more than makes up for the increased expense; but you can run regular as it states in the manual.

My 05 GX470 said it was ok to use 87 octane fuel but the 06 GX470 I now have even has a sticker on the inside of the fuel door which says to use premium unleaded. I don't know what changed since last year that it now requires premium fuel. I've tried both and it runs fine on either one.

Premium, Mid-Grade, or Regular

I was thinking about purchasing a CPO 05 RX330. What kind of gas is required, recommended and/or preferred? Consumer Reports indicates that regular is fine. I though I read that the owners manual indicated the same thing, but several car review websites indicated Premium is required.

Thanks.

On my fiance's 2005 RX330, the fuel door asks for Premium. We fill it up with Premium every other fill up. The other is with 87 regular. Since gas is expensive, every bit counts.

This has been debated a lot on the forum... you may want to search for it.
The 2004 Owners Manual says "Select octane rating 87 or higher. For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasoline with an octane rating 91 or higher is recommended."

I used to use mid-grade (octane 89) until gas prices went through the roof, then I started using regular 87. I didn't notice any real difference.

I use Premium 92 Chevron

i just use 87 unleaded for my rx400h....that's all it requires and gas is quite expensive now!!! gosh...i saw 3.00+ for regular unleaded yesterday!!! :eek2:

Regular Works just fine

When I purchased my 05 RX TC the dealer told me that all of the RX's they use for loaners are filled with regular. Most of the personel at the dealership who own RX's also just use regular. It's fine to run them on regular, if you want more performance such as acceleration then step up to mid or premium, or add octane booster. Here in Jamestown (ND) the current price of regular is $2.69 which is the highest in ND based on GasBuddy.com. The other day while in Bismarck saw it was $2.53 and topped off the tank before leaving. I realize East Coast and West Coast prices will likely be higher than around the Midwest. So if you want to save a couple dollars each time you fill up then use regular. Premium runs about 10 cents a gallon more around here so a complete fill up will run you about $1.70 more if you looking more for performance. Also per the leading consumer mag. the higher octane will usually not improve your gas milage, just your performance.

Does the RX ping more w/ the regular gas? Thanks for all the help!

RX 350 gas requirements

Does anyone know if the RX350 can use Regular gas or does it require premium?
Also, can the RX350 run on E85 gas?

BTW. I have used regular 87 octane, ethanol based 89 octane, and premium in my 05 rx330. I have not noticed any significant difference. Since I live in corn country I usually use the 89 octane 10% ethanol gas.

Frankr66 04-11-06 09:42 AM

my 06 rx330 says premium and that what ive been running

its been a killer up here in the northeast, im paying close to $3.00 for a gallon on a regular basis
