Hi,I got those 5 mm spacers, realy i am scared to install on the car,the way they look very thin is it safe to install

Good thread with lots of useful information - thanks to all who have contributed. I was worried about finding replacement tires I liked in the oddball stock size, but now I'm comfortable with our future replacement being Nokian WR 255/55 R18.
A question: Are folks buying 5 tires, so that the spare will match or are you keeping the stocker as the spare?

Just to add to the whole sizing discussion, it is important for people to realize that the true size of a tire is not always exactly accurate. For example, a 255/55 R18 tire diameter could vary from say 28.8" to 29.2".

Can I put 255/55 R18 studded snow tires to my Lexus R350?

Did not use spacers..
From what I could tell, I don't have any rubbing.. Rubbing was
reported to happen when the wheel was turned all the way..
No rubbing that I could hear/see..

The Bridgestones have a bit stiffer ride than the Michelins
(could be the air pressure - 36 lbs)
but also about 300 less.. I got them on sale.. buy 3 get one free..
the local Tires Plus matched the Firestone Store price..

Has your Lexus RX350 been running OK with 255/55 R18 tires? I am really torn in whether buying or not a set of used studded snow tires that are in great shape and good pricing, but all car experts have told me not to do so, since the width may hurt the clearance for 90 degree turns and have rubbing issues, ultimately cant hold much weight either. So I was wondering if anyone can confirm that after putting on the 255 tires will be sustainable in the long run?

Thanks!!

2008 rx400h

I put on a set of Michelin Latitude 255/55/R18 H105 on my 2008 RX 400H. These tires fit perfectly with no rubbing of any kind and required NO spacer. They mounted perfectly to the original wheel and mounted back onto the car as they were meant for it from the factory. The results: this vehicle had some inexpensive 235/55/R18 tires that did not perform well in the rain and had a lot of road noise. These new Michelin's are just amazing, quiet ride, better handling and pumps out water from the three deep channel treads during heavy rain. On a scale of 1 to 4 I'd rate them a 4+! I very much like the more aggressive stance the vehicle now has with the overall larger tires. Yes, they are over very expensive at well over $200 each but if you have the extra cash you'll be very happy with your spend. Michelin is currently running a $70 rebate per tire!

Congratulations on the upgrade guys. Quick question: Did you guys replaced the spare as well ? I was wondering if I upgrade the 4 tires and if it's worth upgrading the spare as well since my rx350 is awd. Late by 7 yrs since the last 😆 . Recently bought Rx350 as a back up and notice I love everything so far beside the brake system is underperformed. Definitely wider tires will help with the stability and traction as well. Thanks

Two different diameters, & as well as being awd, yeah....Best to swap out the wheels to at least a 8.5'' x18....use a 20mm offset & yeah the 8.5's will take a 235. The 255's work better w/ a 9''-9.5'' width wheels.....Plenty of room w/ the rear struts....

You don't need an expensive spare to match the four that are on the car, but tires deteriorate from age as well as wear. If the spare is fairly old, you should consider replacing it with one that will not fail as soon as you mount it on a wheel. Check with a trusted tire store to see what they say about the age of a spare, bearing in mind that it is in their interest to sell you a new tire.

2X ^^^^^^ main thing is the same outside diameter & w/ in 7yrs....Now matter the vehicle, if your running a square set up, I rotate the spare as well....

Add Wheel Spacers to get the rims to stick out the fender well. I used 1/2" Front and 1.5" on the rear. Looks flush.

Wheels work better, try 8.5''-9.5'' width wheels w/ a 20mm to a O offset.....
