I checked the price of a 400h for the 91731 zip code at carsdirect and that price was $3000 over sticker. For my backwater zip code the carsdirect price was invoice( I paid under invoice) though Edmunds still says they sell for $3000 over sticker. I think autospies over estimated demand for the 400h.

just like the prius. its all about supply and demand.
my shop cant keep those in stock. and the new awd gs3's

Keep in mind that unlike with Prius, Lexus started building a whole lot of RX400h from start up, so supply should be much better than in Prius early days...

You really should not wait for an RX400h for a long time, anywhere...

RX400h prices

Ultra63...You said in your post that you paid "under invoice." I think you meant "under sticker??" If I recall correctly, you paid $2000 under sticker in Shreveport???

I agree with spywolf. It seems to me that there are plenty of 400h's out there, at least in TX. I don't see why anyone would have to wait a long time unless they're holding out for a particular color or option package.

I'm curious how long it will be before dealers are offering deeper discounts on the 400h?? Also, I think it will be very interesting to see how well the value of the 400h holds up in the used market. Hopefully, the 400h will be like the Prius...excellent resale value!!!

Don't ever pay more than sticker price on a car. Ever. Doesn't matter what brand or model.
No car ever holds its value well enough to justify paying above sticker price. When you go to sell it, trade it, or it's totalled in an accident, the price you'll be offered starts relative to the equivalent of the original invoice or the current wholesale price. Nobody will care that you paid a premium for it.

i doubt there will ever be really high discounts for RX400h, they simply dont produce that many of them. You will also see a lot less discounts on RX330, because they seem to be limiting their supply slightly... which is in line with their comments that they really dont want to oversell Lexus.

of course, this is just an general thought. It all comes down to the dealer and how bad they need to sell the car, when it comes to that, you can get discount on anything...

Right -$2000 under sticker. Under invoice in my dreams. I got a similar quote -$2000 under sticker from a Dallas dealer but got a better trade in in Shreveport. Interestingly I ran into another 400h at Tinseltown here last night so some 400h's are staying here though I know at least one went from Shreveport to CT.

The California dealers are actually having more trouble carrying the RX400h in stock compared to the rest of the country. There is a high demand for them here due to our gas prices.

ultra63 Jul 17, 2005 07:58 PM

I requested a quote via edmunds.com and got a reply from a dealer whose name bgins with s who has a good service dept per other post here.

uthorns197 Jul 18, 2005 01:35 PM

Ultra63...That dealer that starts with S that has a good svc. dept. quoted you $2K off sticker on a 400h??? I assume that he did so in order to match your local dealer in Shreveport who gave you $2K off sticker???? Is the Shreveport dealer still discounting?? Did the Dallas dealer offer less for your trade-in to make up for the big discount?? Thanks.

ultra63 Jul 18, 2005 01:59 PM

I followed what edmunds recommends and requested a price from DFW dealers and an internet rep at S contacted m. I was pleased the quote was under invoice as stated but trade in was lower than my local dealer would do. This was the end of June and maybe I got a sales goal break since it was month end.

at the Beverly Hills Lexus and i'm sure at some other dealerships there was a $10,000 mark up....i don't know if it is still the same way

uthorns197 Jul 18, 2005 07:27 PM

Ultra63...Thanks for the info. Sounds like the Dallas dealer may have "robbed Peter to pay Paul" as the old saying goes. He offered a higher than normal discount on the new vehicle but offered less for your trade to make up for some of the discount. You definitely got a break from the Shreveport dealer at month end. As stated, I contacted him and the deadline was June 30 for any discount. After that, nada. If I recall correctly, he did not have the desired vehicle on his lot when I contacted him.

Compared to what our friends in CA are up against, we are lucky here in TX--no premium over sticker. Of course, TX is a long way from CA. That would be one heck of a drive back in your new 400h. Might be worth it if you could save several thousand dollars. :D
