Wondering how many RX330 owners have the dash rattle.

For those of you that have the intermittent "dash rattle" are you going to have the problem fixed? Does the problem warrant that the service department take apart the dash?

For my vechicle the "dash rattle" usually pops up from a cold start. It either exists from a cold start or not. When the dash does rattle, its very audible even with the radio on. However, it only occured on about 30% of our total driving time. So, I'm still undecided whether its worth while having the dealer rip apart the dash. Maybe I'll have it fix on year 3, closer to when the warranty expires. Maybe it will just go away, or maybe by then I'll be desensitized to the noise.

johnnieliu,

my dash rattle occurred 100% of the time so it was worth it to me to get addressed. in the end, i really believe that the source of the rattle was likely the cowl. you might want to ask your dealer to look at the cowl and insulate it accordingly. i don't think the dealer needs to touch the dash to try this fix. hope you get your problem fixed.

I had the dash rattle that was pretty much happening 100% of the time, especially during colder days. I had the service department work on it when I took it in for my last service, they fixed four seperate areas for rattles and I have not heard anything from the dash since. This is what was on the service sheet:

Rattle 1: Rattle from Dash area
Cause: Excessive play in dash clips
Repair: Removed dash pad and insulate defroster nozzle, R&R Dash and Insulated clips per TSB

Rattle 2: Rattle from L/F Seat
Cause: Excessive play in L/F seat Assy
Repair: R&R seat realigned pins for seat movement and reinstalled seat

Rattle 3: Rattle from Glove box area
Cause: Excessive play in Glove box assy
Repair: R&R Glove box and insulated as needed

Rattle 4: Rattle from wipers
Cause: Excessive play in cowl clips
Repair: R&R wiper arms and couw. Adjusted clips and reinstalled

From what the service tech said, the dash rattle seems to be happening with several of the RX330s so they should be aware of the fixes for the rattles.

Default Dash Rattle

Had our Lexus RX 330 in twice to get rid of this annoying noise with no luck. They tryed the crowl area but didn't work as noise is still as bad as ever.
When we were in Florida the noise was hardly there but now that we are back in WI. , IT IS BACK!
The dealer said they would let us know when there is a fix for this. No call yet though.

Just about all of them. The dealer has all the power in the world to fix it if they are good enough.

>>1. nv3017 remove dash pad and insulate defroster nozzle. (2nd service)

How old is your RX330? That fix was only supposed to have been done on the very early RX330s (manufactured before approximately April 2003) -- there was a range of VIN numbers for this. If your car less than a year old, this fix may have been unnecessary.

On my vehicle, the dash ticking came from the Wipers, and Windshield Cowl. It's easy to reproduce. Sit in the driver's seat. Have somebody else outside the car push on the black plastic piece at the bottom of the front windshield. If it makes the cracking/ticking noise. That's the problem. There's no TSB that I know for this, dealerships just seem to know how to fix it due to the large number of complaints. For me, the sound was worse in colder weather. And almost non-existant above 60 degrees.

Sounds similar to rxrookie's description for Repair#4.

I've read on another Lex site that the dealer has to remove the whole dash panel and apply some insulation.

I am having this problem as well, but I certainly can live with it rather than have the dash removed.

Default SAME NOISE

For a great SUV this noise is bad. I have had it in and no fix. It has to go in again, it should not be for such a expensive vehicle.

Had the dealer do the dash fix TSB and the pop clunk shifting TSB 2 weeks ago. It's great to get rid of both issues. The Lex is now perfect for the time being. I have 16K.
