2006 RX330 wanted
Is this a good deal? We live in Oregon and my wife just started looking for RX models in black, AWD. Seems like the old ones have pretty good reviews, but we don't know much about them. She's also looking at 2nd gen Highlanders. Price seems a little high. Any questions I should ask the owners?

Seeing how you've not offered any details as to what your goal/plan is nobody can or shold comment:
Using it to hauling pianos? not good
Hauling more than 4 kids? Not good
Long roadtrips cross country? Not good
Want great mpg? Not good
Maybe tell us what your mission is would help as you're putting the cart before the horse here
Price and condition look very good. Any accidents? Smoked in, salvaged, any pending codes or mechanical issues needing to to be addressed? What you haven't provided is what matters. "Good deal" is a function of it's valje to you, a Ming vase is useless to me but worth millions so is it a good deal?

Market value ranges from about $4,000-$7,000 for a good example so this RX is not out of line assuming the sellers description is accurate. What a dealer would offer for any car should be completely ignored it is the opposite of a realistic and fair price.
Also this era of RX is extremely reliable and easy to work on.

I bought a 2006 RX as a beater with 100k miles and one owner. It’s been great. Still made in Japan. Has enough power and is a smooth ride. Quiet on the inside.
i would negotiate since i know the dash has the cracking issue. Check for sunroof drainage.
at 52k it’s low mileage but given age the timing should still be done. I’d also change all fluids especially the transmission fluid.
if you get it for another $1500 off - that’s probably a good deal.

Maybe it’s ok but check. Lexus extended the warranty on this issue out to mid-2021, but it still occurs of course and is no longer covered.

Look under that dash mat very carefully. Arizona car + dash mat is a yellow flag. These are subject to “sticky dash” syndrome - google it. Can be a mess, difficult to fix, expensive to replace if cracked badly and beyond repair.

Hey Panda, maybe keep your personal atacks/ignorant comments/name alling to yourself next time. You are certainly entitled to your own opinion but your comments are extremely irresponsible, inapropriate.and not acceptable.

After reading it has only 52K & $10.000 of receipts, What'd it need? It'd make possible sense if its a rebuild total. If it needed the typical p/s pump, rack/pinion, radiator, its still not no $10k work. I'd also look at the '07-'09's as they have the 2gr motor as the 2nd gen('08-'13) Highlander's have. IDK if you'd be using it as a all around vehicle or if your going to haul or tow. Its a great around vehicle, commuter, costco trips, ect. If your hauling or towing, I'd be looking at a body on frame suv/truck. GX, LX, ect. btw, I'd drive both the 3mz & 2gr powered rx's as that'd give you a idea, if 40 more horse's as well as a chain vs belt, works for you. I'd check carfax, car gures, ect to compare the going prices. Then it comes down to mileage vs cost.

The cost of PPI could save you repair costs in the future and also help you negotiate sale price.
I replaced the timing belt on my daughter’s 2005 RX330 and it cost over $2k back in 2019 so expect that cost in the future, because of its age and in AZ desert air could affect condition of belt.
I’d also expect cracks in the dash (problematic of that gen) since they have it covered and factor in the cost of seat cover/upholstery replacement.
Otherwise it looks decent in photos, except they could’ve shown rip in seat.
That’s a solid price for the mileage in my area but I would still try to negotiate down, bc of timing belt replacement.
Good Luck in whatever you decide.

To be honest, that ad reads like it was written by a dealer or car flipper.
Always get a Carfax and an Autocheck before buying.
I caught a few craigslist sellers/ car flippers rolling back the odometer.
And they float the car in the last person's name when they sell it.
Ask the seller if the title is in THEIR name before going any further.
If they say, "no, selling it for my girlfriend, mother, brother, cousin, neighbor, etc" = car flipper.
They love to roll back the odometer.
