Default New tires?

I'm considering a 2009 RX350 with 200k miles from a private seller. I ran the Carfax report the current owner (4+ years, 100k miles) is replacing tires every 25K miles. Seems to indicate an underlying issue. Suspension maybe? In 2019 at 114k "sway bar links, front struts, front strut cartridges replaced." In 2020 at 127k "wheel bearings/hubs replaced." I realize not all tires are created equal but this is a concern. On a (maybe) unrelated topic...thoughts on Car Shield extended warranty? Thanks.

At 200k miles you'd be well overdue for LCA's and ball joints. Tires every 25k seems excessive but you don't know about the alignment, driving habits, etc so no one can answer your questions

Regarding any aftermarket extended warranty - there is zero chance I'd ever consider one

Ditto as I'd be looking at replacing the A-arms which come complete w/ b/j's & bushings.....Don't go cheap here.....

does the carfax or maintenance records show an alignment being done? at 200k miles just be prepared to replace a few suspension components that have aged out and then get an alignment...

The AWD RX is hard on tires, period.
We have over 300,000 miles on ours and up until the Michelin Defender LTX MS, the longest set lasted 42k (I have tried six different sets of tires).
-The first OEM Michelin MXV 8 set lasted 26k (in 2004/5).
I have been impressed with the Defender as the current set is going on 50k. Unfortunately, they quit making the 235/55/18 size, so I will be back to tying to find another tire that can last.

i think it also has to do with low inflation that lexus recommends from the factory. IIRC it's 30, which always felt low to me... i usually keep mine at ~35psi

Very good point Kamlong, not only will it increase longevity it will also give better MPG... the con is a slightly more harsh ride. Tire shops will try to tell you it will lead to improper tire wear they are incorrect

this is good especially in the winter when ambient temps are lower and you want a 'higher' sidewall for any snow driving...

I run 36psi, tires always wear very even, but traditionally have needed tires every 40k (or less). Like I mentioned, after 305k, I just think the RX AWD with 18" is hard on tires.
