Hello all -- The mechanic who I trust says I need a new shift cable, and I am hoping to find the best deal on one instead of the 600 price from the dealership.
Concerning fit, can other cables for Toyota work if it has the same part number?
Any other advice?

Ouch! Try sourcing from a salvage yard. Lexus and Toyota have different part number for identical item. You can try to find the shift cable for Highlander and I hope it is substantially cheaper.

Also a while back a member reported a procedure for recreating the top end of the cable. Not sure how long the repair lasted. Please try the search feature.
