Rear light out indicator
Is it common for the lamp outage module/sensor to go bad? The only light on the dash I'm having a problem with it is the rear light icon. It only comes on when I hit the brakes and stays on the until the vehicle is turned off. (So as soon as you touch the brakes to shift into drive or reverse.) I have replaced every bulb. They all were working, and all are still working. I can get a used module on ebay for around $50.

I suggest replacing the center brake light socket and see if that doesn't cure the problem. I had your problem; replacing the socket cured it.

There are 2 bulbs on each side pillar and 1 on the top edge of the hatch (3rd brake light).
Have a helper verify all the 5 are lighting up with the proper intensity. Also if any bulb was replaced, it must draw the same current as the original bulb [led or other types can draw less current triggering the brake warning light]. Salim |
I have the car down at my shop. We verified they are all working, and I did replace all bulbs and messed with the 3rd light socket. I replaced the bulbs with what came out though.
Anyone know the OEM bulbs for the rear lights? |
Also is there any way the brake switch at the peddle could have anything to do with it or is that outside of the modules scope?

Light failure lamp sensor usually dont go out on these.
Make sure you have the correct bulbs and wattage. 3rd brake bulb is the most often culprit. Even if it lights up, with the wrong bulb, it will trip the failure lamp. Bulbs: Brake/ Taillight -- 7443 bulb ( 21 watts brake, 5 watts taillight) 3rd brake (high mount) -- 921 bulb 18 watts Try using these bulbs first and make sure its securely in the socket. |
Thank you for that, I'll try those bulbs first and go from there!

Ok fixed the issue with the 921 bulb for the third brake light. It had a 906 in there. Thanks guys
