Water in cargo area behind tire well
 

Saw water under the car and, long story short, found a few inches of water inside the well that is at the rear of the car (behind left rear tire well and under the storage compartment that is to the left of the spare tire area).

There's a drain hose that enters this well and goes through a hole at the bottom -- that hose had no water in it -- the water was in the well itself. Attached picture shows the well after I drained it by temporarily removing the hose from where it goes through the floor of the well.

I am scratching my head. No idea where the water came from. It's been very, very rainy here for the past few weeks and the car is parked outside, so I assume it's a leaky area somewhere above this. What leaks are likely; and is there supposed to be some way water in this area is supposed to drain out?

Looking from inside the car, above spare tire, this is the well behind the rear left tire. It had 3 inches of water in there. I drained it by temporarily removing the hose.

If the water can drain out then it can enter from there too. Yes there can be elaborate systems with valves and maybe pumps. In any case it is lot easier to seal it.

Here you have to figure out how the water is entering. There are drain channels in the roof and the other source can be the gas fill line and antenna. Then it can be the the tail hatch seal. You may have to open up the sides. Sit in the truck and park the vehicle out in the rain or have some one hold a hose.

Good idea sitting in there while someone uses a hose around possible entry points. Or maybe I will just wait a month for rainy season to end ;)

Is there any moisture around the perimeter of the rear hatch? It seems odd that a sudden leak would develop; maybe something is plugged. I seem to recall something about drain holes around the sunroof. Maybe one of them is clogged up? Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I am can offer some insight about that.
