Oil change interval for low mileage
My car is old and I don't drive it much anymore. In the past 13 months, I put on roughly 1000 miles. Question: Should do an oil change anyway? Or do you think it's OK to go another year and do a change? I ask because the oil color still looks good and everything else seems to be OK. Thoughts?

The rule of thumb is usually by miles or 1 year. Whichever comes first. Personally, I believe that if you give it a good long drive every couple months and allow the moisture to boil out, as long as the oil looks and feels good, it should be fine. However, I also don't think a $30 oil change once a year is too outrageous of an expense for the safety of its engine.

Oil is least of your worries.
The boots and seals stiffen up due to lack of use.
Vehicles are the new version of horses. Both need to be put to use and not over-use.

consider driving it every 2 weeks to monthly to steam out any moisture buildup. This will also be somewhat a preventative measure to keep rodents from choosing it as a new home and chewing wires as well as keeping the tires from flat spotting. As far as seals go, high mileage oils such as Valvoline maxlife have additives to help keep the seals supple but driving at full operating temp for long trips is still the best.
