Steering help..Lexus tech's...
Need some quick information. Changing a rack on a RX300 2001 variety....the steering wheel may or may not have rotated a full revolution.
This happened with the rack unattached. My question is what is the clock spring like in this steering wheel and will this be an issue. If so is there a way to find the true center of the wheel from a rotation point of view? Thanks in advance for any replies to this. |
I don't see any "clock spring" in the steering column assembly.
There is a "Spiral cable" that is part of the Combination Switch assembly. Looks like it is on the steering column behind the steering wheel. Before putting the steering wheel back on you are supposed to center it. It says
Given that, if you haven't disassembled the column perhaps you can just carefully rotate the steering wheel counterclockwise until you feel the spiral cable limit and then rotate it clockwise 2.5 turns to find your center. |
Too late now, but just in case another member removes the rack, first thing you do is center the steering wheel. Strap the wheel to the seat belt [buckle ups the belt] and tie in to hole in the steering wheel, so that you can not mistakenly turn it [slight motion is ok, but you should not be able to loose your straight ahead location].
