Car Idling Rough after Timing Belt Change - Fault Codes
Hey All,
I recently had the timing belt, water pump, tensioner etc changed on my 03 RX300. The car has 160k miles so figured it was time for a new belt. (last change was at 59k)
Once I got down the road from the shop, I noticed the car wasn't quite right. It stalled at the first stop light and then continued to idle rough. The rpms surge from 500-100rpm every 5-6 seconds. I called my mechanic right away and he gave me a line about it trying to relearn the idle from having the battery off which I knew wasn't right.
This morning, I got 2 fault codes after driving about 30 miles. They are P0016 and P0018. Both have to do with the crankshaft position sensor correlation. Am I correct in assuming the timing belt is off by a couple teeth? Also, is it safe to drive at all if the belt is off? Thinking I may want to park the car for awhile.
Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts. I'll probably give my mechanic another call tomorrow morning and see what he says.

We had our then 99 RX belt done and it ended with VVT code next day. Rough engine, CEL. Fortunately, job was done by personal friend shop, so he took it back no questions and had it done right this time. It's a lot of intricacy to do those belts. Shop is feeding you balony.

P0016 and P0018 are associated with incorrect timing belt install.

When I changed the RX timing belt it did run roughly afterwards and I got the following codes: P1150, P1346. and P1351. The last two are "VVT sensor range/performance problem (bank 1/bank2), camshaft position sensor" and result from the timing belt being off time. I reinstalled the belt and the car then ran smoothly and the codes did not back.

Appreciate the responses guys. The shop had my car for a little over a week to do the job. Guessing he got pretty backed up. Sort of scared that he didn't get it right the first time. Hoping he will have me bring it back and make it right.
