Default 1MZFE valve cover washers?

Hello

I've heard bit about using 5/16" washers on the valve covers when replacing the valve cover gaskets. Also something about the factory crush washers.

Could someone please summarize this issue? Mentioning options, 5/16" washers or the factory crush washer? Torque value?

Was also planning to do the spark plugs at the same time. Is there anything else I should replace? Half Moon plugs? Also what is the word on Fel Pro for Valve cover gaskets.

I plan to get:
Valve Cover Gasket set
Permatex Ultra Black RTV
Plenum gasket
Spark Plugs ( Double Platinum or Iridium?)
New factory crush washers or 5/16" washer?

There is not a separate crush washer. The OE valve cover bolts have a composite washer attached that is alternating layers of rubber and aluminum. It is part number 9008010288. I bought new bolts to use when I replaced the rear valve cover.

See this post for a diagram of the bolt

The torque for the valve cover bolts is 69 inch-lb (5.8 ft-lb)

I also used an OE valve gasket.

+1. Spend a little more and buy OEM fasteners. Also use Toyota FIPG or Right Stuff for best results. Yes, do half moons and make sure mating surfaces are perfectly clean and degreased with alcohol or acetone. Do not cheap out on aftermarket parts. This is not a job you want to do twice, at least not Bank 1.

I think the extra washer trick got popular when folks try to re-use the old (deformed) rubber hold-downs.
