Rear Differential swap; 99-00->01-03?
Does anyone know if the rear differential from a 2001-2003 could be swapped onto the 1999-2000?
Reason for asking: I can only find new rear axles for 1999-2000 at a price of $599/each. That is for the Lexus parts; I have been unable to find aftermarket rear axles for 99-00.
New aftermarket axles from aftermarket sources for 2001-2003 can be had for about $50/each.
I can find used rear diffs on car-parts for around $400.
So if I want two new rear axles, it appears that one used rear diff plus two new axles for a 2001-2003 would be ~$500, which is $100 less than a single new Lexus axle.
But could it be done?
For those that do not know, the earlier AWD RX300s flange that bolts to the differential is a different size than the 2001-2003 models. But would the 1999 driveshaft connect to a newer differential?
