Default Curious about RX 300 MPG?

There are lots of discussions, threads and thoughts about gas mileage. I’m always wondering how my RX is running compared to the norm. Let’s try to form an overall opinion about average gas mileage.

To do this with as few variables as possible, answer this question in the Poll:

Question: What mileage (MPG) do you get on a typical long highway trip? Let’s not count bad weather trips (rain, snow, strong winds, stop and go, etc.)

I’m thinking most of us are above 20 MPG for this kind of driving. We’ll include both FWD & AWD as well as any year RX 300 model. Thanks for your help!

Wow! Some of you folks must be towing trailers or something. I'm pretty sure my electronic AVG MPG indicator/odometer works reasonably well (Should I be suspect). Like I've said before, I get 26-28 mpg at 65-70 mph with A/C. At 55-60 mph w/o A/C I get 28-29 mpg; on my 2003 FWD RX300.

I'm averaging 24.6 with a somewhat heavy foot driving down to Sandiego from OC. Its a 2001 FWD Silversport.

gosh, i only average about 18mpg...i changed my intake and exhaust a couple months ago and the first couple weeks, it was giving me horrible gas mileage (less than 16mpg) but now it seems to be improving...maybe my engine computer has adapted now...i dunno...

Talking

Lifetime average for 55k is 16.9 for mostly suburban driving. Road trips are well above 20 even though I tend to use the spurs quite a bit........

2WD and 4WD have different mileage numbers. you might try doing 2 different surveys.

Default Howie, I had the exact same (also with K&N air filter)!

On long trips of 150 mi one way, 300 round trip, I was doing 23.2 MPG! that was until my wife took over (Ms Lead Foot), but at least she is as good a driver as I...

Default Cruising in the RX300

Hey all,
I have only taken my rx300 for one road trip so far on the Pennsylvania Turnpike....driving From Philly
to Pittsburgh and then back......With Cruise control on 90 percent of the trip..I averaged between 23.5-24
MPG at average speed of 70-80 mph. Its an all wheel drive model as well....under normal
driving conditions I am getting around 19 MPG
I am happy with this figures.......i use 89 octane gas..maybe this has something to do with those few
that experience bad gas milege??

I will be driving from The Jersey Shore to Port St Lucie Fl in July, about 1200 miles.
WIll be by far the longest trip. So far I havent driven over 100 miles at any one time.
Hoping to see that 24 - 25 mpg that some have said they were getting.

Default Re rea that 150 mile trip.

A couple of posts ago, I mentioned the 300 mi round trip. I drove the 150 mile return trip last weekend again. Going as easy as I could I averaged 25.0 for the first 75 miles with a couple of tolls, a pit stop and a few other stops. For the next 75 miles I got on it a bit and the milage dropped steadily until leveling off at just 24.0. Good weather all the way, not too much traffic as it was Tues, after the big holiday push.

In my traded '99 I had 25-26mpg on a trip from NJ to NC. Tank topped off right at both ends, some AC on the way south. Probably averaged around 60mph. No question based on the mpg on the monitor during the trip, but the number is computed from fillup. Tires a bit firm around 38-40psi on Integrities.

Similar run south and downhill from Warren PA vicinity to NJ ~~ 26mpg with a tailwind!

Based on shorter runs I believe I am getting around the same now on summer gas on our new '03/300. Will see this summer how this runs, lately around town am getting around 21 or so, to 22.5 with some longer runs worked in.

In town, I avg. 18 mpg. On the highway, I avg. 21 mpg. Keep in mind that I live in S. CA where you're getting run over if you're not going at least 70 mph. I say that because I'm certain that my fuel mileage would improve quite a bit if I were driving 65 mph on the freeway vs. 75 mph.

For those of you who say you're getting less than 20mpg on the freeway, what are you towing or how fast are you driving????

My RX300 AWD gets me about 24.5 mpg during long highway trips. Overall it averages 22.6 mpg based on the computer. I use only 87 octane gas.

Interestingly, the average mpg is about the same whether I drive in the mountains or the great plains.
