New RX 300 owner, question
Hey guys,
Just going to pick-up my RX 300 today!! I actually had a GS 400 before, but needed a more "utilitarian" vehicle with some room and 4-wheel drive. It's a 2001 Gray Metallic on tan leather, all options. Xenon's, NAV, heated seats, 6-disc Nak., Sunroof, spoiler, AWD, 33k miles. I'm picking it up for $27,000. Haven't seen it yet, but my dealer friend who I'm buying it from (and trust very much) says it looks like it's never been sat in. You all think this is a good deal?
Also, quick questions about the NAV. If this car came from another region, do I have to update a "chip" for the NAV system to work? He mentioned something like it won't work unless you get a new chip from Lexus that allows the GPS to work for my region. Also, I understand that the 01's and up are a DVD based system. How much is the subscription or update cost from Lexus??
TIA,
-Zarlov

Congrats !
The Nav system is DVD-based (the player is under the trunk floor, to the right of the spare).
It has data for all US on the one disk (Canada was added on the 2002 disk, along with improved mapping in some areas).
A new disk comes-out every year or so, and costs around $250 (you can easily install it yourself - search the forum for details).
If you press the 'Info' button on the dash, and then (I think) the 'revision' button on the screen, it will tell your what version you have.
The hardware is built by Lexus, but the mapping data comes from a 3rd party (Mapquest, Navtech ??).
My advice is try it in your area, and see how well it maps the roads. If you want better detail, or just the latest data you can get the '03 version - or maybe wait a few years.
I have the '02 version, and it works incredibly well in San Francisco area...

The Lexus GPS is DVD based and one of the best in the industry. It works nationwide and does not need to be upgraded per region. You can pretty much drive across country if you wanted to. Enjoy the new car, by the way!
