Default Solution: Key stuck in acc position

First off, make every effort to keep the key in ACC position. If it's locked/stuck in any other position, you must resolve this before moving on.

I was stuck at a restaurant and had to be towed home. You can try tapping on the back of the key with a rubber mallet or something of the sort. DON'T MASH IT....you're trying to work the tumblers loose.

Once home, I called a mobile locksmith and advised him of the situation. He was able to get the key free through picking and manipulating some tumblers.
Then it was time to FIX it. In the ACC position there is a button underneath the ignition cylinder, you must push that in, while the key is in the ignition cylinder in the ACC position, this will allow you to pull the cylinder out.

You'll need a 10 mm socket, flat head screwdriver and phillips head.

Remove 2 10 mm sockets on the dash panel. Remove the ODB connection Unhook the hood release. There are 4 tabs on this kick plate near the top.
Around the ignition is another bezel you can pull towards you. Be careful with the plastic ring around the IGNITION. IF YOU BREAK THAT, YOU ARE GOING TO BE VERY UNHAPPY. Everything in here is DELICATE.....be delicate....Don't break stuff.

The solution when the cylinder is out is simple. Have a locksmith REMOVE all the security wafers, if you have a chipped key....You still have 1 of the security features active besides the door locks. Without your key, the keyhole may turn, but the vehicle won't start.

This way you don't have to find a new cylinder, don't have to reprogram keys or ECUS....

I was back up and running in an afternoon. $45.00 for the security wafers to be removed.

Not that it happened to you, but I was really frustrated once that I could not get the key out of ACC position.

In my case, my assistant put the vehicle in N with parking brakes on. When I got in teh driver seat, I struggled for at least 10 mins and then reached for the gear shifter and found it not in expected position of Park.

Moral of my story is ... make sure the shifter is in Park and you have good battery 12v to deactivate the shifter inter-lock.

I had the same issue with the shifter in N and parking brake on, except it was my nephew who I had loaned the car to. He came in the house and claimed the car was "broken." It took me about 15 minutes to figure it out. My nephew gave me a sheepish grin.
