Default Changing the transmission fluid...

I read the "sticky" on trans fluid changes...but I have a few questions. My local Lexus dealer advised the RX300 does not have a trans filter, it has a screen; I assume the screen will catch things if they are large enough to have part-numbers on them. . The dealer advised they do not pull the pan to clean the screen--presumably because it is a waste of time--they flush 16-quarts of new fluid through the system with a 1-pt cleaning additive and then they add a 1 pt conditioner; $35.00 for both.

On my Toyota Solara, the recommended procedure has been to drain the maximum 3.5 quarts, put in 3.5 fresh quarts, take for a short drive and cycle through all gears, repeat three times; a 45-minute procedure. Thus 10.5 new quarts are introduced to the system...sure looks nice and pink when done. Seeing we are not changing a filter in the RX300, is there a disadvantage to doing the same 3-change procedure in the RX300? Do the magnets in the trans pan get so cluttered-up with particles that a pan-pull is needed ?

Behind door number 2. My local non-dealer shop has a flushing system where they connect the trans cooling lines to their machine, the car is started and the trans itself pumps out the old fluid and draws in the new fluid--about 15-16 quarts. Not a high pressure flush that could cause problems--just moving the old stuff out and the new stuff in. They will even give me a discount if I want to supply Toyota fluid. Any draw-back to doing this? That has worked great in my G.M. car that does not have a drain plug.

How about the Lexus trans conditioner additive...anybody know anything about it...worthwhile or ...?

Welcome to CL.

Please re read the sticky. Answers to your questions are all in there and you can search for other threads on flush or not. Additives or not. Manufacturer's, CL member dealership's recommended procedures for transmission have been raised and answered.

I am closing this thread as the issues have been hashed and rehashed and rehashed.

Please feel free to revive any of the existing threads.
