P0171 Smoke testing
Hello Everyone,
i just bougght a 99 rx300. been hunting the P0171 code.
I smoke tested for leaks and had has smoke coming out of the accelerator cable linkage. i.e. where the shaft for the TPS passes through the throttle body and connects to the cable linkage springs.
Could there be a seal that has deteriorated.
I have attached a pic with the yellow pointer towards the area the smoke is coming from.
BTew, these are not my photos, i borrowed off the forum.

@Baetke: i used the following method.
http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show....php?p=3530331
@Z07: Is that diagram related to rx300 throttle body, i do not see two butterflies side by side.
Secondly i am not sure if we have a motor mechanism in the Throttle body. Can you please recheck the diagram and application.
The throttle moves smoothly throughout the range.
In Boosted applications, i have seen people replacing seals on the throttle shaft.
There has to some sort of sealing mechanism between the shaft and the housing.

I would think a small amount of smoke would come out there and not be an issue. Maybe try shooting carb cleaner at it when it is running and see if it sucks enough in to make the idle change.

I like the carb cleaner way to test for vacuum leaks.
