Hi all,

I just purchased some Sylvania Silverstar 9006's from a local Kragen store. I didnt' buy any 9005's yet. I don't use my highbeams all that much and the DRL's are fine using the stock high beam bulbs. I want to install the 9006's this weekend.

How tough is it to change out the low beam headlight bulbs? I haven't done it b4 on the RX. Any helpful hints?

super easy install. pop the hood and you'll see the back of the headlights. pull the right ones out and pop the new ones in. try not to touch the glass on the bulbs.....finger grease is no good on the glass bulb.

I found that the passenger side bulb was easier to install if I removed the bolt that holds the windshield washer filler tube, and pushed the filler tube over in inch or two. You'll see what I mean when you pop the hood. The RX 300 tool kit has the correct wrench to do this. Gave me a little more room. The highbeams are a totally problem-free install.

Like Shonuff says, don't touch the glass. Use surgical gloves, if you have them.

Go for it! changed both to Silverstars last weekend and is was less work than I anticipated!

I did find it is a bit of a chore to get the connectors off, which I do before removing the bulbs from the housing. Here is where a long screw driver used gently to help loosen and slide off the connector comes in handy as you have the other hand in there holding the little plastic connector lock in on the side of the plug.

Thanks for the pointers. I will keep these points in mind when I install the Silverstars this weekend.

I "picked up" some rubber surgical gloves from my last doctor's visit (he had a whole box of 'em just sitting there in the room) just for this headlight "surgery".

The Silverstars will hold me over until I can splurge for some HID's. Thanks again everyone.

How do you like your Silverstars? I just installed some GE Cool Blue's in, which are comparible to the Sylvania cool blue. Do the Silverstars make that much of a difference. The GE bulbs were only $18 for a pair, so they are much less than the $50/pair for the Silverstars and give out about 20% more light than stock.

I found the cool Blues were marginally better than the stock Hal's.

Last week was the first time I've installed SilverStars (all four). There is no comparison! The Stars operate as advertised. Brighter, Very White and only 5 watts more power draw than the stock Hal's (no danger to your stock electrical system).

Highly recommended. I look forward to going out and driving at night !! When the wife realizes what I've done to the RX, I'll be spending another $50 for her ride too, for sure, ouch!

I just installed them today. I couldn't wait to go out and try out the new Silverstars.

They are indeed brighter than the stock headlights. It kinda has a blue-ish kind of tinge to the lights (maybe it's just me) when I drive at night now. Maybe it's just the lights reflecting off different surfaces. To me it projected the beam pattern a little more to the left and right sides of the road. And also, it seems to throw more light out in front of yer vehicle too. It's not like you are gonna get HID-like brightness with the Silverstars. But yes, I am pleased with the light output for the $50 I spent on the Silverstars.

I am gonna throw these Silverstars on my other car too once I figure out how to pull the other ones.

Daddy-O, thanks for the tip on the w/w fluid filler tube. I unscrewed the bolt with a 3/8" socket to have better access to the passenger side lightbulb. Thanks again everyone for the pointers.

I may now have to go out and buy some 9005's and change out the highbeam bulbs too.

I converted my 9006 low beam set up to 9005 bulbs...it's so much brighter...probably as bright as HIDs

Yes, but aren't you blinding everybody with the much broader beam?

Not really...there's a cap in front of the bulbs to block some light
