Liftgate Latch won't release
 

Suddenly my liftgate will not open. I cannot find an emergency release or button in glove box that others wrote about. Perhaps my 99 model is too old for those features. The fuse is ok.

How to I get it open??

The '99 model did not have power-lift (motorized rear hatch), so dont bother looking for button in the glove box.

Try lock-unlock with the key and try squeezing the release. Some time pushing the door also helps.

I have never tried to remove the panel with the hatch in closed position. But by removing the panel you can release the hatch from the inside.

If you manage to release the hatch, take off the panel for few days.

I don't know if your situation is similar to mine but...
The return spring on the release handle, has broken on mine. After opening my rear hatch, I have to make sure that the release handle is "pushed back" all the way. Otherwise, even though the hatch closes and latches, the hatch won't unlock when using the keyfob or the key.

Make sure your release handle is pushed back all the way as your handles return spring(under the inside panel) may have broken or come off
