Transmission fluid - AT/OIL warning light
2002 RX 300 AWD 212,000 mi.
On long trips, my AT/Oil Temp Warning light comes on. I have not drained and filled or flushed the transmission since I bought it. Fluid looks dark, but doesn't smell burnt. CAr still shifts ok.
A. For a quick fix, can I just drain fluid out of the tranny plug and refill with the same volume of fluid via the trans filler tube? I had a guy tell me if i drain the fluid out of the tranny, the valves drop, because it is a pressurized system and can cause problems??? Not so sure about that one.
B. For the long haul, should I have the system flushed? I have read good and bad about it. If so, should I have a Lexus dealer do it instead of a standard repair facility?

I have no idea what your friend is talking about
Check if the transmission cooler in the front passenger side wheel well is blocked up or covered with crap
I doubt anyone would recommend a flush. Just drain & fill. I do it maybe every 30k miles. There is a sticky for it.

I have no idea either...lol. I'll look for the tranny cooler and check it.
So, to drain and fill, just open the drain plug on the tranny and add the same volume (4 qts I think) back in? Do I need to open the transfer case plug too?
