Default Lubrication of Ignition Lock

Any help here would be most welcome, ever so often my car key would stuck in the ignition and not even turn to light -up the instrument panel...after turning the steering a few and waiting..it finally started ...can i use WD40/ or LUB/RUST SPRAY IN THE Ignition lock to loosen it up ?

thanks in advance

How much grime is on the key you are using.

I would not use WD40/similar lube in this area.

Only thing I would remotely consider is some electrical contact cleaner, but I would have to have a serious amount of grime in there, and I haven't seen that with mine. Even in that case, I would be careful about how I cleaned it, maybe even using a toothpick (preferably plastic so wood wouldn't break) to get off some of that grime very carefully in the keyhole area.

How often is this happening?

I asked the same question to a locksmith once and he said WD-40 is fine. However, if you have second thoughts about squirting a liquid into your lock there is something much better and made specifically for locks. You can pick it up at any hardware store. It is powdered graphite. I use it all the time and it works great. Good luck.

Just be warned, though, that graphite stuff gets all over the place and can be quite messy (ask me how I know).
