Default 1999 RX-reliabilty/issues

Thinking about a 1999 RX with 109,000 miles. Real nice cosmetically. Read about issues with transmission and engine. Any comments or advice is welcome. Thanks.

How's the service history look?

I have bought two '99's with good service histories, and I would not hesitate to buy another. Hypervish is right -- history is the key (if the price is good)!

You are talking about 15yr old vehicle. That alone says it is reliable. Please check the history and keep reasonable expectations. Cost of repairs can be high.

You don't say if you can get it below market value or vice-versa (no need to mention the figure). People tend to ask a higher price if it looks well looked-after, but that can also be very deceiving. Getting it at a bargain can smooth away a lot of pain if you have to rebuild the suspension or whatever. Test drive it as much as possible, before handing over the green ones.

Nice to have a California RX as there aren't likely to be any rust issues. That'll make it easier to work on (no frozen fasteners) if you choose to do so.

I bought my 2001 a year and a half ago with about 130K miles on it and it's been trouble-free. Wife's DD (she let's me put gas in it occasionally) and I do get to drive it on trips.

I have transitioned it to Mobil 1 engine oil, and the 3 times it's been in for minor servicing I have them drain and refill the transmission fluid to refresh at least part of it.

Overall a really nice driving machine. I hope you like yours.
