Bought a 99 in ‘14 with 220k spent about $2800 on the engine stuff (cam shaft seals, valve covers, etc) and the actuators didn’t work and the hatch kept falling on my head. Lost patience with it and traded it (HUGE Mistake) for an 07 Rx350 with 97k. Had to put a water pump in about a month in as the old one literally exploded. Got rid of it because I couldn’t get the damn CEL to go away. Replaced catalytic converter..$800 nope not it. Lexus told me $450 for O2 sensors but then what’s next. Let it go. Got a 15 Sentra. Meh. Miss my lex. Getting ready to buy a 99 desert bronze with 200k. Super excited!

I have a 1999 Lexus Rx 300. Bought it off a family member with 110,000 miles on it. I just passed 300,000 miles this past Friday. I have the original motor, transmission. It does have some quirks right now; I have a clicking noise from the blower behind the glove compartment (actually just ordered a new one online after taking the old one out and cleaning it and it did not help). I have a very slow power steering leak (1 bottle every 2 months). I will have that replaced soon along with new spark plugs since I have over 100,000 miles on those. Just recently I have noticed a slight stutter when taking off from idol, but only when the car is warm. I read on here it could be the IACV valve, which I am going to try and clean myself this weekend.
I had a complete tune-up done at 200,000 miles; timing belt, thermostat, tranny flush, coolant flush cleaning of fuel system, spark plugs ($2500).
I change my own oil every 3k miles and that has been it for the past few years. I have no complaints about the car at all. By far the best car I have ever owned. I am toying with the idea of trading it in this spring, but no car payment is such a nice thing. I was offered 5k for trade-in from a local dealer with the purchase of a new car.
I will drive this car cross country tomorrow without a second thought, that's how well it is still going.

Plugs , not IAC
That stutter when warm is the plugs .I changed mine and that fixed it .
The IAC would be a problem cold or warm and would be very difficult to drive .
I have 272000 on my RX300 and it starts and runs great.
Payment free is the way to live .

2nd owner
I have a 2000 Rx300, I have been the owner since 2011. It has 265,000 miles and still kicking. I have replaced 4 or 5 of the 6 coils, alternator just a couple months ago, and a o2 sensor and a Variable Valve Timing Solenoid. Both of those were the bank easiest to replace so I changed them out myself. All electrical, seats, sunroof, power everything still works fine. The one thing I have not looked at yet is the back windshield wiper. It stopped moving a few months ago and I haven't taken the time yet to look to see what happen. It might be stuck, a fuse or the motor burnt out. Will look at it before spring comes. The previous owner before selling did take it in and did a preventative maintenance and tune up on it. Nothing major was done just fluids and filters replaced.

2000 going strong
Just passed 335,000 miles and going strong. Still one of the quietest vehicles I get into even amongst my friends' cars (MB, BMW, Ford, etc.). Heading for the third timing belt any time now with all maintenance still being done (16 yrs) at the local Toyota dealership every 5,000 miles. Have probably saved thousands staying local and not going to Lexus. Original engine (17/23 MPG), new tranny at 220,000, original cat/muffler, new alternator at 320,000 miles, 3rd set of Michelins.

My daughter just got her driver's license and my Dad gave her a 1999 RX300 AWD. It has almost exactly 300,000 miles and compared to the 1968 Impala that I drove at her age, this car is amazing! Sure it has a couple of little issues, but runs like a wooden watch, is loaded with bells and whistles and gets better gas mileage than my truck (F150 Raptor ). I have no idea how long it will continue to run so smooth but am super impressed. Looking forward to tinkering with it using the wisdom you all impart in your postings.

1999 RX300 AWD. 300,000 miles. 2 months ago I drove it from California to Seattle to deliver it from my Dad to my Daughter. My Dad had a starter put in but that's all I know about its maintenance. He gave me a stack of papers so I'll try to remember to update this post with anything I can find. All I've done is fix the Brake Light Failure Module according to the DIY post on this Forum. Other fixes will come, I'm sure. I think it needs new struts and an adjustment to the emergency brake, but otherwise purrs like a kitten. It will be driven until it drops as it has newfound sentimental value given that my Dad passed away 2 weeks ago.
