you might try just tightening the bolts down a little and see if that helps...Also consider changing the PCV valve as the engine could be building up crankcase pressure. To replace that gasket would probably envolve removing the intake manifold.....

Thomas, tightening the bolts is a good idea, I guess I'd say CHECKING the bolts for tightness. I'm quite sure from pulling the front valve cover on my DIL's RX to check for sludge, and then replacing the gasket, that the bolts are shouldered, therefore can only be tightened so tight. Typical Toyota engineering, (meaning excellent) in that the gasket design is as good as it gets and limiting the tension on the valve cover is also very wise thinking. I believe more people than not would think that if tight is good, tighter has to be better. Not so! IF the gasket is in fact leaking, time to replace, then tighten the bolts good and snug (against the shoulder) and drive on!

for that rear cover the one closest to the manifold are going to be really tight, the ones next to firewall might be acccessable....It is just tight back there...

I did it on mine, I had an oil leak from the rear cover as well. It was really not looking to good on the driveway. It is very tight to get under there to so it. I'm small and skinny so I snuck under there not even lifting the car up. There are four bolts on the spot you need to tighten. It is a 10mm, and I used an open end wrench to tighten them. Only do it about 1/4 turn on each, even if they can take more don't do it. If you have access to a lift I recommend that, but if not, you can do it in your driveway like me!

I confirm this: after I changed the PCV, the oil leakage stopped, as least for 1 month since then. Thanks Thomas.
