99Rx300 This key looks like the master key ( has Lock, Unlock, and Panic buttons). New battery, only the Panic button works, alarm sounds, and red light on key flashing when I press it. Both Lock and Unlock do not work, no light at all when pressed.
I read a similar thread, but not exactly like my problem...; the Panic works on my key. Lex friends, please help. Thanks.

Sounds like your CPU is dead or so called not receiving signal.
Just happened to my 2000 RX.
Dealer said they done everything but changing cpu. They quoted $1,500 for cpu).
Its cheaper to put aftermarket alarm..

Has the key ever worked for you?

The key needs to be registered (programmed) with the ECU. To register, you need Master key. Programming steps have been posted (search should take you there).

Note: The master key must be recognized as a master key by the ECU as a master key ... [my key with 3 buttons will not be a master key for the other vehicle]

The transmitter/receiver may have some problems too, [since the panic button works, it seems the transmitter/receiver are functioning]

That was the only key I got from the seller and I did not ask weather it worked before. The plastic cover broke at the screw along, under the Lock button made the metal part a bit loose. But it works, open door, and start the car. I made a spare key (without remote) from the dealer and use it since. I read the reprogram thread, not sure if I should reprog. this key? Flashing red lights on key don't work when press Lock/UnLock?

If flashing red lights don't work, the remote itself isn't working.

There was a thread here of someone repairing a key where their buttons didn't work.

But, what I would suggest is get another Master key, if you can find a good deal on it.
