Question No heat, servo issue?

Hi all,
my Gf has a 2002 rx 300 and the heat has stopped working. The coolant resovoir has plenty of liquid and the hose inside the resovoir looks fine. Both sides of the hoses (can't remember what their called) are hot, and when I rev the car for a while in the drive, it seems to blow warmer, but not hot.. This could be a totally seperate problem, but she also has the hamster:-) noise, I thought it was a problem with the cd changer, until getting on this forum.. Anyway, that sounds like a air mix servo issue, but I'm not sure that that's causing her to get no heat... She's even broker than me so I'd love to help her out, she freezes every morning on the way to work.
Thanks in advance!

thats the same problem i had on my 99 rx. i didnt want to take out the actual servo and clean it, since its in the back and hard for me to reach. i zip tied the gate , so hot air will flow. whenever it gets warmer outside i will just cut the tie to let cold air pass.

Sounds like a servo problem.

Default Freezing???? Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!

The temps here in my area have struggled to get above the 0 degree reading for the last few days. With the wind chill factor the temps are down on the minus range (and this is during the day)
The heat in my RX 300 is working just fine however it does take several miles before the engine warms up enough to get any real heat out of the heater.

had the same problem with my airmix. only blew cold air at any temp. new part cost 160. i'd say do the zip tie thing since AC isn't really needed now and just rebuild or buy a new one when you can afford to do so.

Thanks for the info! I think a zip tie would work for the time being. At least she would have a defroster. Where is the gate?

for our rx its the servo closest to the firewall. to make the heat go on i carefully removed the white plastic gate piece from the black servo unit and zip tied the white plastic gate piece up. making the heat flow. sorry for the terminology, i just have no idea or pictures of these items. i remember seeing pictures of them on this website before i did this cheap fix. good luck and try not to snap anything.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-cold-air.html

this is the thread that gave me the idea to ziptie it for heat. theres a pic on the 3rd page.

12/24/09- venting: stupid servo screw. i just tried to remove the heat servo and the top screw that connects the servo was very hard to remove. i tried to use angle screw drivers and differt sorts, but no luck. well i figured that the servo doesnt work at all cause i was switching from cold to hot and no sound at all. i would replace the whole thing if i can remove it. i think i might just get a family friend mecanic to fix it.
