VERY Quick Question re: Resetting CEL
Removing the battery terminal for 20 min or so should do it too.
First I would move my seat etc to favorite settings and then disconnect battery. [search may give you the fuse number]. Then when I put the terminal [or fuse] back I set store location without moving the seat.

How long it stays off is not affected by the method you use. The ECU is reset and will stay off until another problem is detected. Problem is that if you don't fix the condition causing the CEL it is detected again after a pre-determined number of cycles.

It was never meant to be a fix either permanent or temporary. It is just a method to reset the light after you have done the required repair. Or I suppose you could use it to reset the light and wait for it to come on again just to verify that you do have a problem.
I understand what you mean. I just did not want the OP to think it was a fix. Another question for you mikey00, if there is a predetermined number of cycles for the light to come on again after being reset, is there also a pre determined number of cycles for the light to go off without getting the problem fixed ?
Well, apparently no "pre determined" number of cycles for the lights to come back on.
The latest for me was 3 days, approx. 8 hours of drive time between when they went off by themselves, and when they cam back on by themselves.
I'll let you know when they go out again, even if it is of no interest. The vehicle performs and drives no different when lights are on or when they are off. I should
have it scanned so I know what the codes are, but in no hurry as at this point it makes no difference on or off.

Lights are off today(CEL and VSC) after 2 hours of drive time and six ignition on,ignition off cycles. They were on when I started it up this morning, took a 10 minute ride to the store, shut it off, shopped, re-started and lights were off.
Yes, those wonderful CEL lights can shut off by themselves if the condition is no longer detected. You will still see them if you hook up a scanner (they're stored in there until you clear them), but the CEL light won't come on any more. In fact, I remember a few times I'd be going down the Periferico (that's one of the big expressways in Mexico City), the CEL came on, I went to reach for my OBD2 scanner and a few seconds later, the CEL went off. Can even happen to you in the case you just mentioned where you start up the vehicle again and no lights.
