Default Engine Air Filter and Oil Filter

Other than OEM filters I would like guidance on using other brands on my 2000 RX300 FWD. Are there brands you would use? Are there brands you would absolutely reject?

When AutoZone has a special on Castro oil, it usually comes with a free Bosch, K&N or Mobil 1 oil filter. I have used all but I also frequently change my engine oil and filter.

Thomas- I got a half dozen of the "Full" brand from Partsgeek for my DIL's RX. I took a peek at a few things on the car the last time we were down there and noticed my son had used 1 when he changed the oil last. I told him to save it when he changes next time. I want to cut it apart and see if my suspicions are correct. I would have used them on my wife's car but then the local Toyota dealer put a coupon in their flyer for OEM at $3.50 each, no limit. To good to pass up.

I don't use an air filter anymore (long story), but don't follow my lead, but I was using a K&N, but I would remove all the oil on the filter and then recoat just the size facing the airflow directly to cut down on oil getting on the MAF, which I did have happen.

As far as the oil filter, it is now an oversized K&N HP-2009, unlike the stock size HP-1002.
