Cruise control cutting out
Hi -
I just bought a 2001 RX300 with 129,000 miles on it in exceptional condition. I love it. Today I had set the cruise control to 70ish, and three separate times the cruise control simply disengaged. Is this common? What's the fix?
Thanks!
Aslan

Welcome to Club Lexus.
This not a common problem. I have come across brake switch problems and that prevents you form moving out of Park. Cruise disengages when you apply brakes. Any way to monitor flickering brake lights.

Thank you Salimshah, for the greeting and the 411. No brake was applied--the cruise just disengaged. It did not shut off, as evidenced by the fact that the "cruise" light on the dash still appeared. No way that I know of to monitor the brake lights while I'm driving on a Southern California freeway, which is where I normally use cruise control (it helps me avoid my tendency to "leadfoot").

OK, since no one is answering my question, I decided to answer it myself. I found the cruise control system in the engine compartment. Found the control cables connector, disconnected the harness, then cleaned out the contacts using compressed air, plugged back together, and now it all works great. If you want to more complete cleaning, use electric contact cleaner.
There you go, I have solution.
