I Need Charcoal Canister RX300 parted out or good deal on new.
All,
I recieved the "check engine" and Lexus says that it needs the Charcoal Canister... and the price is WAY too high from the local dealer.
If anyone is parting out an RX300 or has a great dealer deal, please let me know. Thanks!

Have you checked irontoad.com? I would not recommend a used one, the charcoal canister is used to trap fuel vapors.

They usually sell parts on their web site at 30% to 50% off the local stealership price. Be warned though, if you go to the dealership, they're full price (go figure)?!

Update - Found part, wrong year
All,
Still looking for a charcoal canister assembly.
I found one in an area yard, thinking that the RX300 canister assemblies would be the same. Sadly, no.
They were of one type for 99 & 00, and then switched over in 01. (good to know, but a bummer.)
So, it looks like the search continues.

How did this search end up? How much did you have to pay and where'd you get yours from please? Did it fix your problem or were further parts needed? I need one for my '03 RX300.
Thanks, Mike
Thanks, Mike

Hey all, I'm in the same boat.. 1999 RX300, with a diagnosis for a new charcoal canister.
Diagnosis:
I started out with some combination of the P0446/P0440/P0441 trouble codes, which point to the evap system. I took the car to the shop I use and they sold me a new factory fuel cap for $25, and stated that they had checked each of the three valves in the evap system, and that all were functioning properly. They also said they verified there were no leaks in the system. Based on this, the problem was either fixed, or a bad (plugged) charcoal canister.
Wouldn't you know it, a day or two later, the light comes back on, same codes. So they gave me the same $700+ info for the canister, not including labor. I took a look under the car, and the canister is very easily accessible from underneath the car, just in front of the rear bumper.
So I'm looking to replace mine as well.. I would like to hear back from the original poster as to how the story ended for him/her.
I'm looking at http://www.newlexusparts.com, and I see they have one for $429.
I'm considering taking mine off, and giving it a good shake. All this thing does is filter the fumes from the gas tank and either purge to atmosphere, or send the fumes forward to be burnt.. And if all the valves have been confirmed to be working, then why not? Has anyone tried this before?
I also heard that, depending on the production date, the part number could be different, and that the reason they are so expensive is that all three valves are built in (a part of) the canister assembly, and that there's also a hose that may need replacing, as that sometimes becomes plugged. Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
