'02 RX 300 Check Engine Codes
 

Check engine and VSC lights on. Took to Autozone, they provided codes and gave me new gas cap, $8. Lights still on. P0440; P0441 & P0446. Help?!

Unfortunately, this might be a tough fix. They are all related to the evap sensors and possibly the charcoal canister. Unless, you have some real mechanic knowledge, this is something for a trained mechanic.

Sometimes, if there are hoses disconnected around the airbox in the engine bay (especially the one on the back side) or the are frayed or cut, this can also cause this issue. You are right to check the gas cap.

However, I must caution you, most of the time I have seen these codes pop up for the years it is either the charcoal cannister (inside the big black box near the rear of the vehicle), or some of the evaporation lines/sensors running over the top of the fuel tank.

Wow! I tried to remove the yellow fuse to see if that would reset the light, but I cannot seem to just pull it out. Is this worth fiddling with, or should I just take it to the dealership for their evaluation. :egads:

If you are trying to remove the EFI fuse I talked about, you have to give it a bit of a tug with that white tweezer. If not, take it out with a set of pliers very gently.

If you take it to the dealer, they will run through a series of checks just as outlined through their service manual. I believe most people have unfortunately wound up doing this in the end.

As Lexmex already said, hoses disconnected around the air box will cause these evap code errors. Make sure you do a good check on the one behind the air box (under the brake fluid reservoir). This one is probably the most common cause of 0440. What usually happens is when someone checks the air filter, they lift up on the top of the air box and the black hose behind the air box gets disconnected from the metal tube below (not easy to see).
