I'm using this oil for the past 2 years already and I like it as well. It does not oxidize easily compared to mobil1 I used before. What are you using now or oil that you like?

German Castrol 0W30. This stuff was absolutely wonderful in Mexico City, though it cost approximately $30 USD a liter, but about $6 USD or so at Autozone in the United States (have seen at Pep Boys, too). Quite a few people in this forum are using this oil. I knew about this oil from some people who raced turbocharged Volkswagen Beetles in Mexico and also from what I later read about the oil on www.bobistheoilguy.com Though I don't discount there are other fine oils out there, I really do like this oil. I plan to run it a bit longer than I did back in Mexico since I am now in a less harsh environment...Miami, Florida.

A lot of racers at my 1/4 mile track in Mexico would run Royal Purple, usually one weight higher than their vehicle normally would run, and a lot them sensed they got a butt dyno of some more horsepower, but a few reported they didn't see the same consumption issues that they saw with Mobil 1, which is heavily marketed there. Castrol Syntec and other synthetics we commonly know here aren't as well marketed or even sold there.

I have a 2000 AWD, average is around 22mpg combine both highway and interstate.

The average was at 20mpg, as high gas price recently, I start using cruise control while on highway. Sometime I even turn on cruse control while driving locally. You will be surprised what you going to get when the speed is at 25-30mpg and 40-45mpg. I got 25-26mpg believe it or not. Therefore, if you want to save your money, use your cruise control as much as you could. That is 10% of gas saving.

That's a good point. On my trip home from Mexico to Florida, I average well over 25 mpg, with my RX fully weighed down, and used cruise control on the highway.

This is a terrific post. I have learned so much from it by just now reading it. Thanks LEXMEX.. I am going to check and clean many of the items mentioned. I have an 2000 RX300 AWD that has about 120,000 miles. I've changed the A/F sensors some time ago, they do go bad, but I've always gotten and engine code error when it happens. My mileage is 18~19mpg when driving a mix of highway and urban, and 21.5mpg on the highway. This has been very consistent since new. If you drive with a very light foot and drive a fairly flat highway you might see 23mpg+, but I don't think this is realistic over the long haul.

As for octane? I used 91 or higher for many years, but now have started using 89. The price of premium got to be ridiculous. I don't notice a difference.

I had a 1995 Camry V6 and it hated 87, it would miss and cut out under hard acceleration. Under normal driving it was no problem. I had a short lease on the car and only figured out that I should be using a higher octane fuel just prior to turning it in. Manual recommended 91. My RX300 states the same but indicates 87 is OK with possible reduced performance. If you drive with a light foot and under light load where there are no steep hills I would think 87 should be fine.

You will be glad you did.
just bought my 99 RX300 less than one month ago. really love it.

ONE QUESTION: how do you get accurate mpg number for highway driving or city driving? The MPG # I can get is by reading the number on screen. It was 19.6mpg when I just bought it. Now it steadily increases to 21.3mpg. it was a mixed number for highway and city driving. guess I have a good driving style? I am using 89 octane. Previous owner told me that he always use 89 octane.

Anything that I can do to increase my gas mileage? I have just changed the engine oil, transmission oil and air filter.

Does fuel injection cleansing and spark plug change ... can improve the gas mileage? Many thanks.
I haven't experienced any poor mileage. At the moment, I am getting 21-24 mpg highway and about 18 city

I've owned my 93K mile RX300 for two months and six tanks of 89 octane 'winter' gas up here in the northeast. So far averaging 17.8 in mostly city driving. Even though I don't really expect improvement I'm going to clean the MAF and IACV because it's satisfying and seemed to make a small difference when I did it to my old camry.

Welcome to the Club.

One thing that I'm still trying to deal with is crud at the bottom of my fuel tank left over from Mexico. I know it's there. I'll often rotate my fuel injector cleaners (some seem to be better at clearing certain types of crud out), but often my MPG will go down on the next tank, I'll use another cleaner and then it will go back to normal, but there must have been layers of gunk from that Pemex gas. I'm very careful to check my tire pressure on a monthly basis, too, but even then on an experiment I've been running I estimate no more than about a 3 psi loss over 6 months.
