Default Auto-Up Window Problem

Recently the auto-up feature on the front windows of my 2000 RX300 has been malfunctioning. Lift all the way up on the switch, let go, and the window goes all the way up and then go right back down about half way. After a few attempts they tend to go up (and they work fine if you manually hold the switch while they roll up), and it doesn't do it all the time, but I was wondering if this is a common problem.

Thanks

I've been having the exact same problem on my 2001 GS300. It doesn't happen all the time but enough that I usually just hold the switch up.

It's not a common problem, but it has happened to me, twice. The second time, I had to take the door apart and get at the motor and I took it to a guy who knew how to fix the 'anti-pinch' device, an automobile electrician friend of my uncle. Sometimes the window can be dirty or the grease is dry and the window needs lubrication. Most of the time, peope will just replace the motor, but I am not sure offhand how much one of those costs.

Sounds like the pinch protection needs to be reset. There is a procedure to do this in the repair manual but you need to remove the door panel. First try cleaning the window channels and using some dry silicone or Armorall on them.

Default auto up window

thanks for the information. I am wondering if it's been so long that I've rolled the windows up and down (temperature is still only in the sixties here in Chicago) there's resistance in the system.
