Default Help! Questions from new owner

Hi Friends!
We just bought a used RX 300 (2000) and we are thrilled. However, with great power comes great responsibility and I need some help. We didn't buy it from a Lexus dealer and there are things I just have no clue about. I know you hear the same questions over and over but it would be great if you could help me with these questions.

1. We have only the master and the valet key. What is the cheapest way to get a spare key (doesnt have to be remote) but can do all the functions?
2. When you get out and lock the doors automatically with the side door panel and close the door does that activate the security system?
3. Does someone have instructions for the keyless remote? I was playing around with it and all the windows came down at once.
4. What kind of oil can you put on the Stereo Antenna?
5. Is the security system enough? Should I worry about taking an extra step like putting on a club or something?
6. We have no owner's manual. What is the best way to get hooked up with an owner's manual?
7. Who has a maintenance schedule? oil change every? tune up every?
8. It needs tires. New tires are expensive -- Are good used tires an option? What is the best way to get good tires, cheap?

Thank you! Sorry if I offended anyone.

Welcome!

#4. Keep in mind any lube you apply on antenna mast will be a magnet for dust and grime will soon develop.

I would take a penetration oil like wd40 and wet a corner of a rag. Extend the mast and use the wet rag and wipe off old dust + lube. Lower the mast and extend it couple of times and repeat the process till the rag remains clean.

Then take lithium based grease and apply it very sparingly. Lower and raise the mast and use a clean rag to wipe off the grease. Repeat without applying more grease.

For the rest of items. I suggest that you read the FAQ and use the search feature.

Welcome again.

Salim

eBay is great for spare keys, make sure it's a locksmith or you might get the wrong key. A master remote usually goes from 40-60 dollars. Sometimes you get lucky and get one under 20.

Go to a dealer and ask them to run the VIN to see what services Lexus has performed during it's life. Go to Lexus.com, register and you'll be able to access an owners manual for your car.

Hey! Welcome!

Sewell Lexus, a CL sponsor, carries owners and service manuals and at a very good price. Visit http://www.lexus-parts.com for those and other things you might need I think they also carry keys and transponders, use CL911M for the ClubLexus discount.

Sewell is a great source for sure, I buy from them all the time but noone should spend a dime on an owner's manual when Lexus will send you a brand new one via express mail for free. As mentioned earlier in this thread, register as the owner with Lexus on their website and then request a new manual. They send it out right away and don't even charge for postage.

My antenna used to be really annoying. It made the weirdest sounds, so one day I took some silicon spray and and rag and sprayed the silicon onto the rag and wiped the antenna...it hasn't made a creak yet!
