hey guys i have a brake problem .. everytime i brake right before it does a complete stop it will jerk ... this only happens if i go pass 20 mph.. if anything below that it wont happen... someone said to re-sand the rotor .. and someone said my abs
RX brakes are touchy and if the RX is new to you, you will find that it snaps your head. I generally back off the foot pressure at the last fraction of the second.
That does not mean you dont have a problem with your brakes. Has this change happened recently? If so try to burn off the coating on the disc and the pads. You have to make repeated sharp but safe brakes to heat them up. Just make sure you dont have any one on board other than the driver and lots of open space in fornt and behind you.
I dont this has anything to do with the brakes, although it is related to slowing down. I think what your experiencing is your transmission down shifting before you come to a stop, very normal. You see once you go above 20mph the transmission is shifting up into second and therefore if you slow down it will down shift back to first before you come to complete stop.
In a video from last night at the the track, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSYwjEO19bg (right at 44 seconds in) at the very end when I am turning around and facing the fence you can hear a crunch. Those are the brakes.
That was the last run of the night and I run several times earlier, so the heat had built up.
I also have found that if they get very hot after a while...they sit...then you take the RX out again, that crunch can be heard and it does give a little bit of a jerking reaction. This is a combination of the pads and the rotors.
Only other time I get them is in wet weather coming down a hill.
My buddy with the Mazda RX7 (one shown on my car domain page) went up with me to Leon, Guanajuato late last year for some track racing and on the turns, his rotors and brakes began to heat up. At one point, he lost control and went into the dirt. We must have had several people who lost control due to this issue and hit the tires and suffered damage.
