That would fit.

I should mention that on the Toyota Harriers I saw in Jamaica 2.5 years ago, they actually had 215-70-16 as their stock size, unlike the 225-70-16 that is the OEM size on the RX300. having a 65 sidewall would easily fit.

BTW, Welcome to the Club.

What's the particular tire you are looking at in 215-65-16?

Lexmex i put 255-55-18s (330 rims too) on my rx, check out my "last mod, help needed" thread for pics of them installed. It rubs a little bit whenever I turn the wheel all the way. Obviously this is only happening in front- the back clears the strut just fine. I am still trying to figure out if this rubbing is dangerous or anything like that. Next I was going to try 245-55-18s when these wear out. Worst case for these I figured was to get some spacers but I dont want the wheels to be popping out to the side of the car....any pointers? You said you knew people with 255-55-18?

bump this is good thread. I am looking at tires for my 16's before i buy tires for my 19's as will still want original wheels. I have 10mm spacers already for that but i could use the for stock rear too but thinking 245 would be absolute max on a 6.6 inch wheel it really should be on a 8.5 inch wheel i can also sense premature side wear because of this.

I cant help thinking the 225 would still be best size.

My 2001 I am offroading it quite a bit, and also am using it some snow.

For me, having wider tires isn't as important, as a bit taller tire, and more aggressive.

I was thinking of going with BF Goodrich k02 or some WildPeaks AT3.

Would you guys recommend staying with 225, and going higher sidewall, OR going narrower 215 or fatter 235?

Mine is AWD, and stock suspension

This is in relation to my turbo idea. Most tires I have seen in this range are no different on treadwear than my 235-70-16 CrossTerrains, but not as good as the 225-70-16 on treadewear.

The shorter sidewalls won't expand as much as they would with a wider one.

The 235-70-16 grabs the road a lot better than a 225-70-16 (I remember very clearly that day in my mind).

Go for it, you should have no problems.
Did you go with your consideration of using the 225-60 R16 tires? If so, how did it work out for you. I have four new 225-60 R16 I own and wanted to know if it was okay to use them on my 2000 RX300.
