Change cig lighter socket to full-time power?
Is there an easy way to change the power adapter (looks like a cigarette lighter socket) at the rear of the center console so that it remains powered when the key is removed?
Thanks
Thanks
I have two thoughts:
- It might not be worth it. An alternative would be to run a wire to the battery (fused as Salimshah suggested), or tap into another high-current circuit, and put the termination (cigarette lighter female connector) under one of the front seats.
- If that power outlet runs to a junction box or fuse box, it might be possible to rewire it to constant-on power at that point. But, most of us don't have wiring diagrams.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will probably just run another new socket and have it under the seat or somewhere else out of the way as suggested.
My BMW is always on and this allows me to do things like leave my phone in my car and have it charge or play a movie on a portable DVD player and not worry that every time I start and stop my car it will turn off the power soI have to restart the movie for my kids (I am getting one without a battery).
In our old minivan it had a cool feature where you could just move a fuse and change it from iginition to always on. This was good when camping so I could blow up inflatables without the keys in the ignition.
