You said you changed the fuel filter,I thought that was in the fuel tank?

I'll post some photos later of the areas, but charcoal canister (big black block) is just behind the rear differential, underneath vehicle where spare tire is and the VSV for Vapor Pressure Sensor is on top of the fuel tank. There are some other things with VSV in the name spread out around the vehicle though.

I plan to probably due a fuel filter changeout with my uncle in January, however I may postpone that until I have had a chance to look at some aftermarket options.

Their are two things now that lexus engineers have done that do not make too much sense,1) puting the trans cooler where they did,2)puting the fuel filter in the tank.Both don`t make too much sense to me.

I am feeling a bit better this morning as we have everything covered on what we need to do for repairs on my own RX.

Now, with the charcoal canister, that is this thing here. Right behind the rear differential on the back of the vehicle.

Now the vapor pressure sensor I can't show, because it is actually on the rear of the passenger side of the fuel tank, where red arrow is with the blue square behing the location of the charcoal canister (it's inside the black box). Two little hoses furthest to the left going out of the charcoal canister head almost straight to that location.

yesturday i removed the cover and checked the charcol canister. looked fine and i didnt see any cracks anywhere. im going to check the vp sensor in a bit.

Lexmex, what has to be removed to get to the vapor pressure sensor???? Is it an electrical device???? Thanks

I keep getting code p0440.
Put a new seal on the gas cap and still get the code.
Supposedly the Goodyear place did a smoke test and said the vapor canister was leaking.
I checked all the hoses on the canister, replaced O-rings, checked the solenoid operated valve that is on the canister, all were good. I realize the canister itself could be leaking.

I then bought a used canister from a salvage yard and still get the P0440. I assume it could be bad also.

Checked the solenoid valve next to the engine it works fine.
Checked the solenoid valve on the air box and it is OK along with the hose on the back of the box.

I feel like if I buy a new canister I will still get the code so I was wondering about the vapor pressure sensor. Is there anyway to check it????

This is usually one that in the past with a lot of people required a trip to the dealer when it could not be figured out through other means and if I recall from most it ended up being the charcoal canister.

I don't really remember somebody winding up with a vapor pressure sensor issue on this code. I take it you have cleared the code via disconnecting the battery cables and still had this issue?

I am going to be back late tonight as I have a meeting in a bit, but can help better when I get back.

I cleared the codes with my code reader.

I have not tried the voltage checks. I have a volt meter. Do you have anymore information on doing the checks. If so I would appreciate it. It may be the canister but it does seem odd that I get the same code with the used one I put on??????

Sent PM. This is one of the more perplexing ones to diagnose by oneself. I sometimes wish I had the pricey handheld diagnostic scanner Toyota/Lexus uses for some things.
