Default 2000 RX300 Ignition Coil #4 failure question.

Hello have a 2000 RX that was running roughly, CEL was flashing. Dealer advising the code indicates Ignition Coil #4 failure. From reading through the forums it looks like just a simple swap of the ignition coil, however dealer wants to charge me 400 bucks. If I was to change myself can anyone advise which cylinder is #4 if you are standing in front of the engine looking at it? Also is this indeed just as simple as pulling the faulted coil and swapping with the replacement?

I had cylinder #6 ignition coil fail on my '99. I bought a coil from Autozone for about $60 and it seems to work fine. Cylinder #4 is the middle on the front of the motor. It's a very easy replacement when it's on the front of the motor.
Here is the cylinder arrangement.

1 3 5

2 4 6
Front of car

Good luck

You are lucky it is the front. Replacing the coil is akin to replacing the spark plug...max 20 minutes.

Pull your EFI fuse (yellow 20 AMP noted in your fusebox diagram) or your negative battery cable off for a few seconds to reset the CEL if you don't have an OBDII scanner.

This is funny, we were just talking about this the other day and my number 2 coil went out last night on the way up to the track. We tested it with my old plugs and put the ignition coil into the other front cylinders. OBDII scan revealed same thing...it was that coil. Since we have no Lexus down here, I went to various car parts markets to look for Toyotas with the 4 prongs, but finally went back to Toyota here and got an ignition coil from the current generation Camry. 95% match (a little wide so we sanded it and then had to add some washers for the nut), but it fit and locked into place on the prongs. No CELs and RX ran fine.

I will still get some coils from the states for my RX.
